Ruh-Ro potential troubles in Columbia

I wasn't sure if this belongs here or on the poli board, but since the central theme is college basketball, I thought I'd stick with here. As you may or may not know, or even care, ISU's women's basketball coach finally answered the call of the allmighty $$ and headed to Columbia, MO. She's about to find out that the spotlight burns a little brighter when you're at a "big" program. Those traditional mid-western small town values won't play on the big stage.
She is from Iowa, that might explain it. Graduate of/played basketball at St. Ambrose.

This seems like a non issue. She didn't use the words gay or lesbian; hell, she never said straight. She said it was rare to see a staff full of married people with kids, and that she loves to bring a family setting to the team.
I see zero wrong with that. This seems like someone is reaching, and a hell of a reach at that, to make a story here.

If, at her news conference, she had announced she is a lesbian...would these same people blast her...or praise her for being "open" and "diverse"???
Please, someone, provide us with a list of words that can be used to describe oneself that will not raise the hackles of all groups...
