Out of Oakland, Michigan comes this article on Summit expansion:

The Summit has already moved up the site visit from late November to early. Now Tom Douple, Summit Commish, is reported to have visited UND last week. Obviously The Commish is in a hurry and we all know why:
1) Big Sky
2) It seems there is always room for 1 more
Membership is security but costs will always enter the picture. For the Big 3 Dakota Schools one more Dakota school is good. Nice bus games, good crowds and excellent regional media. Of course, all of this is available without the conference so when is enough Dakota enough for the Summit?
If the Summit adds UND it's almost a sure bet the football side of things is going to change as well. It would all seem pre-determined.

That statement doesnt exactly sound like a lock for UND. In the next breath the article talked about Eastern Ill. becoming more involved. It almost sounds like they might be a candidate. If another school is going to be added the eastern contingency of schools and original members are going to have a lot to say. For the new schools to push because its convenient for them could offend some important friends inside the conference. For the Dakota schools either way is good.“I think it can strengthen our league from the standpoint that, when you talk about the Dakota schools, those are the major state schools for those states,” Oakland University Athletic Director Tracy Huth said. “The question in my mind right now is that if we expand and bring in North Dakota, we have an 11-team league. I’m not sure how we handle that within all the team sports particularly with all the traveling and having an uneven number of teams. I’ll be curious to see if we try and continue to expand.”
