Darius Adams scored 27 points and Indianapolis upset Tennessee (No. 20 ESPN/USA Today, No. 23 AP) 79-64 in exhibition game Monday night.

Seems this is happening a little more now. I recall Grand Valley State beating a ranked Michigan State team a few years ago, and a ranked Syracuse losing to Le Moyne last year. Too bad they're just exhibitions. Anyways, congrats to Indianapolis!

I don't know what this means.

Also, Alabama needed double-overtime to beat Alabama-Huntsville. Final was 73-68.

The Academy of Art took down UC Davis. This "well known" school (not) is in the D-II Pacific West Conference with schools like Chaminade and BYU-Hawai'i.

How long before Bruce Pearl is fired?

Exhibition = Scrimmage.

Move along, this means nothing.

You guys tell that to Bruce Pearl and the UT players, or ESPN. One of the UT players called the performance and embarrassment during the press-conference. It might not count, but the coaches and players take it seriously, and so do the fans.

And a scrimmage does not equal an exhibition. An exhibition is exactly that, an actual game that's an exhibition of your team.

It is embarassing to lose those games, however, they really are nothing more than a scrimmage.

I watched both UNI scrimmages very closely and I can promise you our guys went about 70%. The D2 and D3 teams we played played the game like it was the national title game and our guys were just trying to get a rythem of the offense going against a defense other than our own.

This means nothing.

Yup, if people really think the DI schools play it full to the tilt then you haven't seen games like this played before. Heck, last year Syracuse played man defense pretty much the entire game against Lemoyne - when has anyone seen 'Cuse play man under Boeheim? Heck, I wouldn't put losing on purpose out of the question, if only to light a fire for your own team. For DII schools, this is the only time they can get any press at all - it is their SuperBowl. Just stories to pass the time until the November tournaments get under way.

This is the same reason that FCS teams get victories over BCS teams in football...except those games actually matter.

UNI played zone in their last exhibition game....I have saw them play a zone in a couple years. It is a time to work on getting some things ironed out in game situations that can't be replicated in an actual practice.

I doubt it will happen, but I'd love to see Pearl replaced by Summitt. She's turned down offers to coach the men's team at her alma mater (TN-Martin) a couple of times I think, mostly because she wouldn't have the resources there that she has at UT.

She also wouldn't have the physical presense over the mens teams that a coach needs.

You got proof of that? There's already been a female head coach of a professional (albeit minor league) hoops squad (freshly graduated from Vanderbilt, no less) who led them to qualify for a playoff berth. You think Summitt can't do better than that?

18-22 male athletes, most of whom in college basketball come from poorer backgrounds, with ego's 100x's larger than womens athlete. It's an entirely different beast.

Haha, you've obviously never seen VCU's Shaka Smart...

I could only find these two pics to put it into perspective (the one in blue with his back to the pic):

Physical presense doesn't have as much to do with sstature as other things.

Pat Summit would be more than able to hold her own if she ever coached a men's program.
