What about Cornell? Harvard will be lucky to finish the season in the top half of the Ivies. That's a good season for them.

Old Dominion is the defending CAA Regular Season and Tournament Champs. We return 6 of our top 7 scorers and rebounders from a 27 win team that made it to the second round of the NCAA's. Our senior-heavy lineup goes 6-1 senior, 6-5 redshirt junior, 6-5 senior, 6-8 RS Senior, 6-8 RS Senior.

We are the preseason favorites to win the CAA again and have been picked by quite a few preseason mags and previews to represent the CAA and make it back to the big dance which would be the 4th time in the last 7 years and mark the 7th straight postseason appearance for ODU.

We open the season tomorrow night at home against Georgetown, who will be looking for revenge for the L we hung on them last year. It's definetly the early season game of the year, should be an absolute war.

I would imagine most of you can catch a glimpse of a sold out Ted Constant Center on Channelsurfing.net. Hope you tune in and enjoy!

Weber State was picked to win the Big Sky. If we can do it, it will be our 4th conf title in 5 years. Half of our roster that will bet playing are freshmen. They will need to step up.

We do have the returning Big Sky MVP who is a junior and was also last yr he was an AP honorable mention all american.

EWU is already out our two starting guards due to injury, and have lost two exhibition games to lesser opponents. Not holding out high hopes for the year.

Liberty is picked 6th in the Big South, our first game is tonight against Virginia Intermont. I am hopeful for a top 4 finish, but 4-6 is probably where we'll wind up.

Southern is picked 9th out of 10 in the SWAC. The team will be relatively new so who knows what to expect. They open at Gonzaga tonight (shouldn't be pretty)

Since I wasn't able to post about the new Crimson team the last time out...

Here's our possible starting lineup:
Jeff Georgatos - sophomore - didn't see much playing time last season
Keith Wright - junior co-captain - 8.9 ppg, 4.6 rpg
Oliver McNally - junior co-captain - 7 ppg, 2.6 rpg, .833 FT pct.
Brandyn Curry - sophomore - 7.3 ppg, 2.7 rpg
Christian Webster - sophomore - 8.8 ppg, 2.7 rpg

Special mention to...
Kyle Casey - sophomore (Ivy League rookie of the year last season) - 10.4 ppg, 5.1 rpg - injured? (he isn't in the lineup for the George Mason game)

HIGHLIGHTS OF OUR SCHEDULE:
George Mason - Nov. 13
Colorado - Nov. 28, 2nd home game
Michigan - Dec. 4, in Ann Arbor
UConn - Dec. 22, in Hartford
MIT - Dec. 31
Boston College - Jan. 5

I don't know much about Montana's bball team this year, other than they lost pretty much their entire back court but probably have the best starting front court in the Big Sky, which should mean they'll compete for the title with Weber and maybe UNC (depending on how much they lost, I don't really know) if they get consistent play from the guards and continue to play solid defense.

Wazzu should be pretty solid this year, I wouldn't be surprised by a top 3 finish in the Pac-10 (I think UW should win the conference pretty easily unfortunately). We have Klay Thompson who is a legitimate All-American candidate and is probably the top player in the Pac-10 this season. If he can avoid the insane shooting slump he had last year (missed something like 26 consecutive 3 pointers) we should make it back to some sort of post season tournament depending on how well the conference bounces back after last season's disaster.

WKU is picked to win the Sun Belt East Division and to represent the Sun Belt in NCAA Tournament. WKU is off to a fantastic start with a 98 - 70 destruction of St. Joseph's in Philadelphia!! WTG Tops!!!

UNI hung with Cuse for a half......then the wheels came off with our shooting.

Things will get better for us though, we have a lot of new players getting broke in with expanded roles. Come January we should be rolling.

Sac State was picked to finish last in the Big Sky. I think we will do better than that as Katz looks like he has turned this program around. My expectations are for a 500 season and a berth in the conference tournament.

If EWU's injuries prove to be season killing and with PSU banned from post season play this year, Sac has a great shot. Sac will need to sure to get a couple wins from a down ISU team as well. If it does happen make sure to thank PSU.

Northern Arizona University opened the season with a 14 point loss @ Iowa State University (horrid first half followed by a competitive second half). They followed with a spirited but painful 4 point loss @ Creighton University today. The Creighton game being much better in which a 15 point deficit was turned into a back-and-forth 5 point game until the end. A "minor" discrepancy in fouls (27-15) and free throws (33-13), both in the BlueJays favor, certainly didn't hurt Creighton. A stretch of 7 straight three pointers by NAU in the second half brought back some fun memories of the days of Ross Land, Kelly Golob and Steven Sir. NAU returns 4 of 5 starters and look to be good at guard and on the wing. Limited size/numbers of bigs may catch up with em at some point.

Side note: I just don't see Sacramento State being the bottom team in the Big Sky this year. PSU is out of the post season due to violations. EWU has the forementioned multiple injuries. Idaho State is playing hard vs. U of Arizona on tv right now but they've been down the last few years. Not sure what to think of Montana State or Montana yet. Haven't watched or read up much on their teams. Tough to replace the scoring of a player like Anthony Johnson for the Grizzlies. I expect Weber State and Northern Colorado to battle for top billing. Sac State makes the conference tourney this year, though.

ODU dropped a heartbreaker 62-59 against Georgetown after twice leading by 8 points in the second half. We were up 49-41 and then Georgetown went 5-5 from the 3 point line down the stretch including some miraculous prayer shots with 1 second left on the shot clock that went in.

Missed a chance to pull an upset but we have plenty more this year. Oh well, on to the next game.

Nice, would have been a sweet win.
