Big South Hoops

Figured I would start this.

CCU defeated SC Upstate 71-50 today in the 2nd game of the Charleston Classic.

GTown bombarded us with threes. If they shot so-so from there it would have been a different story.

Here's to another great CCU hoops season!

Liberty has a basketball team with men on it. That's about all I can say about this season. I was optimistic, but now... not so much.

They also have a really good womens' team... whose best player just so happens to have a chronic foot injury.

At least we have Track and Field season to look forward to.

Presbyterian lost by 9 in a hard-fought thriller with #3 Kansas State last night, 67-76.

I watched that game, pulling hard for the BlueHose. K State I think went something like 29 - 8 last year and went pretty far in the dance. To me, no loss is a good loss...but some do make you feel a little better.

I saw that score scrolling on the bottom line. I'm not sure if that should worry me, or if that should worry the KState fans.

I think they were picked 2nd behind us.

They beat a bad wake forest team the other night, but then lost to belmont by 25

CCU knocked off a DIII team - NC Wesleyan by 40 last night.

The Blue Hose will be making some noise in the Big South this year. One of our biggest problems last season was our inability to close out close games in the final minutes. This year, through wins over Eastern Kentucky and Princeton, we've shown that when we're in it late, we have what it takes to come out on top. True, we lost a bad one to Bucknell and could have played better against JMU, but I bet we iron out the wrinkles and get it done come conference time. :thumb:

Why don't you join the rest of the board

Glad to see the Beach Chickens doing well, hopefully they can seal the deal this year.

I'd love to see CCU play College of Charleston, Furman, or Wofford

We played CofC already. Had a 12 point lead or so at the half and crapped our pants in the 2nd half.

Just so you all realize there's more than one team (CCU) playing in the Big South this year, here's the standings:

Coastal 9-0
Liberty 8-1
Winthrop 5-4
UNC Asheville 5-4
Charleston Southern 5-4
VMI 4-5
High Point 3-6
Presby 3-6
Gardner Webb 2-7
Radford 1-8

Liberty and CCU play again on Feb 3.

Doyle, you concerned at all about playing us again without Holmes?

I think that's going to be a really good game. We have a couple players improving every day, so it will be just as close if not closer.

Yeah championshipsubdivision.com doesn't rank high on my list of boards to post about Big South MBB play. It's more like:

1. flamefans.com
2. winthropfans.com
3. coastalfans.com
4. everyone else
5. cs.com

But I came on here and saw all this CCU love and nearly puked

I am always concerned about playing you guys. It was close this year with him already. Hopefully Sam and Chad keep playing how they've been playing since Holmes left.
