Iona @ Liberty is on TV.
USU @ Cheap-Shotting St. Mary's is on TV.
Griz @ Long Beach has a crappy tip of 8 PM PT on ESPN2.
How UOP @ Oral Roberts doesn't get on TV with a schedule like that, I'll never know....

All those games are better for tv except Iona and Liberty. I would be upset if that game was on tv over GRIZ/LB State.

ORU isn't going to the Tourney from the Summit (Oakland hasn't lost yet in conference play, and should roll through) that's part of it. also ORU has a very small alumni base which = even lower ratings than western public schools like MT or Long Beach... or in the case of St. Mary's - a brand name that casual fans are aware of ("that team that plays Gonzaga and is on the bubble every few years)

Iona/LU is on TV because...
1. It puts a Big South school on TV, and every conference other than the MEAC has a TV game.
2. It's a matchup of 2 of the top assist guys in the NCAA. (Mochado for Iona is 1st, Sanders for Liberty is 8th)

You want Pacific vs. Blow Job Roberts on TV? It's not 2005 anymore Super Hornet.

Sadly that match-up will have bigger ratings than the Sac State @ SEMO "Bracketbuster" match-up.

that and East Coast bias

This...I've heard of the school and know they have some recent history in the tourney.

StonyBrook will host Manhattan on 2/19. Our first ever BB game. Looking at both teams we seem evenly matched . I have to pcik SBU by 6.

No. In fact, I wouldn't even have picked UOP at ORU. In fact, I would have picked UOP @ Liberty or Liberty @ UOP any day of the week. TV or no TV, that would have been a MUCH better game. As it stands, we're likely to get a UOP blowout win (assuming our guys show up, anyway) that will do NOTHING to enhance our standing for an at-large. This year, like most, the Big West is likely to be a one-bid league....

So, what's the issue again? Unless you are one of the top three teams on either side, a) you aren't getting a good game and b) you have no shot at an at-large anyways.
I've come to the conclusion that most teams participate in this thing because it is 2 less games teams have to worry about scheduling...There is no other reason to be in it because it can hurt a team more than it can help.

when did the Big West have more than one bid? and by that I mean in the last decade?
the BW was a decent BB conference in the late 80's early 90's - when UNLV was dominant... but since then, they are in Summit/Big Sky/A-Sun territory... eclipsed long ago by the WCC.

I can already see where this is going. Dumb@$$ ECBer says it's never happened, then when proof is provided, the response is that's too long ago to matter. They think they can have their cake and eat it, too. But it doesn't work that way.
FWIW, the Big West last had two bids in 2005 when Utah State was the #14 in the Midwest Region and UOP was the #8 in the West. UOP beat #9 Pitt that year before succumbing to Washington in the second round. UOP's loss in the conference tournament opened the door to the second bid, but likely cost the Tigers a #4 or #5 seed.

What the crap does that have to do with the price of tea in China?
Yet another nonsequitur attempt to trash West Coast sports....

you drunk?
my point was that nobody gives a shit about the one-bid big west... the same way nobody gives a shit about the one-bid summit league or the one-bid atlantic sun or the one bid america east...
geography doesn't matter - each one of those conferences holds a tournament and from it comes a sacrificial lamb just happy to be in the first round and announced on CBS on Selection Sunday.
I care about WCC and MWC hoops because they'll put multiple teams in the tournament on fairly regular basis.

Nobody gives a crap about the Big West? Try running that by Maryland fans who are STILL pissed because they think it's UOP's fault the Terps got snubbed in '05 when the BWC DID get two bids. Try running that by Pitt fans who have seen UOP fans in airports and flipped them the bird years after UOP knocked Pitt out. I wonder how Providence feels about losing to UOP and maybe even Boston College which ALMOST did.
