NDSU vs SDSU

I know this game might not have the hype or the postseason implications. But with the 84-61 win by the Bison, makes it 10 straight wins against our rival from the south. It was an exciting atmosphere with a capacity crowd. It had anything from buzzer beating dunks to clutch 3s. I can't wait for the NDSU offials to stop stalling and build the brand new basketball facility. The BSA doesn't quite make the D1 cut.

That was an impressive victory tonight. The Herd are poised for a run. The SDSU Jack Rabbits are great competitors.

NDSU's "Fab Four" freshman really put on a show during senior night. 7 dunks between them with Felt draining four 3's. The future looks bright for the first time since Woodside left.

4136 for a rivalry game of the big 3?
This still makes the 10k+ against UND even more impressive and shows that UND is still the big rival - even with subsidized tickets.

Exactly, but none the less it was a great atmosphere last night. Loudest game I've heard in the BSA since the Kansas St. game a couple years ago.

Contrast that with the ginned up 10,000 for UND. It was a blow-out too but there is no comparison between that somber crowd and the electric atmosphere in the BSA last night. It was a thrilling contest for all the marbles between a couple of Big 3 Dakota Legacy schools. The win sets NDSU up with a decent seed for the Summit tourny depending on how SUU does.
UND is welcome to play and they can give away all the tickets they want as long as they pay for them, but its just another game. Not a legacy game like last night. What a game! What a night for the BISON, 10th win in a row against the jacks at Basketball and we have The Marker too!
GO BISON!! Dakota Territory Football Champions!!! In the true spirit of the FCS they won it on the field competing with the Big 3 Dakota Legacy schools.

I dont think there has been anything like that in the BSA before. It was amazing. I was listening on the radio and it was nutz.
Saul may finally have the pieces in place. That was a great performance by the young freshman players last night. I have my fingers crossed they are peaking at the right moment for a nice run in the Summit Tournament. There wasnt a lot of difference between the BISON and the rest of the league this year except NDSU couldnt pull out the close ones and didnt know how to hold a lead. Thats what happens to a young team. They can play the game but they have to learn to win together.

Correction,
1. The 10,000 was not "ginned up" I don't know if you were there or not, but the FargoDome was packed with the available seats. There were more students there than the last 4 home games... THAT is saying something.
2. BOTH games were blow outs. Last night we were up by 25-28 most of the second half. Just like the UND game.
3. "The win sets NDSU up with a decent seed for the Summit tourny"? The 7th seed in Summit League isn't really that decent.

Although I would rather play IUPUI/ Oral Roberts than Oakland.
4. The UND game WASN'T a legacy game??? wow

I think ANY time you have a crowd that destroys old attendance records, it IS a legacy. Maybe not in your fantasy world though. If the football wasn't playing it's playoff game in Cheney, WA, the game would've been hyped up more than it already was. Definitely a day in Bison history I will never forget.
In conclusion, it makes a clean sweep of the Dakotas in football and men's basketball. Successful year regardless of their records!

All the marbles=game between the 5th and 7th place teams in a terrible summit league.

The UND game, which was not a Legacy Game, was a good deal for NDSU basketball. The crowd was ginned up with free tickets and other promotions. There were not 10,000 people there however and the true success is not the crowd but the revenue/seat. I think it was very low. The crowd looked spotty on the internet feed. That may have been tough to see from your seat?
A decent seed is a relative term as you have pointed out.
I think the point you are missing, or is it a confusion in your thought process, is the myopic missunderstanding of the terms legacy school and the Big 3, with the concept of rivalry. NDSU has a lot of rivals that are not members of the Big 3. UND is one of them.
There is no comparison to playing UND in basketball and playing them in football. Basketball has a lot of upside potential and as long as UND is willing to fill the bill we should take advantage of it. Football on the other hand is running at near capacity and UND can bring nothing to the table for NDSU except a reasonable idea of their true market value. Until they are ready to to admit to their true market value Gene would be foolish to lavish money on them. Even a home/home doesnt work. A 2 for 1 might but it would still be outside of the Legacy series between the Big 3.

You are correct Sir!!! We swept the football competition with the Big 3 and added a rivalry win against UND in basketball.

Now, now DJH. NDSU seems to be coming together late and a run at the Summit Title and a birth in the Big Dance is not out of the question. Just as the BISON had a young team gel at the right time in football it seems to be happening in basketball too.

a birth in the big dance IS out of the question... this team can't string together four good games AND get past Oakland, whenever they may meet them (blowing the game vs. ORU should have confirmed that)
this team is too young yet... next year they'll be contenders.

I will have to agree with TTBF, NDSU is just a little too young to make a serious run for the Summit League title. They have lost too many close games at the end for me to consider them beating Oakland; if they even make it out of the first round... But in March you never know.

I think the Bison could beat ORU but that will probably be it. Oakland will win the title again, they are just too good. I'd take them over any MVC team as well, so I guess the terrible Summit League has that going for them.

I would like to see Oakland vs the MVC champion. I don't know if Oakland would win but it definitely would be a fun game to watch.

Oakland could make an upset in the NCAA tourney if they get a good seed.

Actually, the Summit does not have anything "going for them".

Oakland beat Tennessee. MVC champ Missouri State couldn't pull that off.

That's what FB means. Our conference champ would beat the MVC champ. But when it comes to overall conference strength, the MVC has it hands down. At least in my opinion.

Generally agree - although Sagarin only has the MVC rated two spots ahead of the Summit, currently.
(closed circuit - the above message was not for JBB. JBB: The Summit blows donkey dicks in every facet)

This year, nope. Between the two leagues, there is only one top 50 win - Oakland's.
UNI had a great run - LAST YEAR.

What is not true? That there is only one top 50 win? that the leagues are closely rated THIS YEAR?

You're top 50 stat is not true. MSU and WSU are both top 50 teams, and they both have several conference losses between the two of them, so there is several top 50 wins right there. And off the top of my head, I know Evansville (the worst program in the MVC) beat top 50 butler this year.
Even in a year like this year, where the MVC is as down as it has been in over 15-20 years, it is still a significantly stronger conference.

Neither by Sagarin or Jerry Palm are MSU or WSU in the top 50. close, but not there.
