Once again, the road for the Big Sky invite to the NCAA tournament goes through Portland, this time the women. As it should be. :D :thumb:

The times for the games are officially out & they're different than initially reported. That is reflected above.

Eastern Washington upset Montana State, 77-68. MSU cut it to 1 with about 2 minutes to play, but the Eagles scored the last 8 points. Pretty surprising given that the Bobcats handled EWU twice without trouble the last 2 weeks.

EWU will play PSU. The UM/ISU winner will play NoCo.

Montana leads Idaho State 32-16 at the half. The Lady Griz have lost 7 games they led at half this season, but none of those leads were larger than 8.

Montana wins, 66-53—it wasn't really that close. They also clinch a winning record for the 31st. time in 33 years under Robin Selvig.

This was only the third conference game for UM that was decided by double digits; all three were wins.

Montana leads NoCo 25-20 at the half. The Bears took a 17-7 lead, but only scored 3 points in the last 10:30 (all free throws).

Not a lot of offense, as one would expect from the top 2 defensive teams in the league.

Montana wins, 55-46. After the Lady Griz took a 43-31 lead, the Bears went on a 10-0 run to cut it to 2. They reduced it to 1, then back to 2 with 1:19 left (after UM went up 4), but could never tie it or take the lead. UM sank some free throws late to stretch out the margin.

That was just as frustrating to watch as the game in Greeley 4 weeks ago. The Bears aren't necessarily a full-court press team (it's not their primary set or anything), but they press better than anyone else in the conference.

Fun random stat - Montana is the first #4 seed to reach the title game. The #4 seed was the only seed to never have reached the championship coming in.

Portland State & Eastern Washington are tied at the half, 26-26. The defense from the first game must have somehow infected this one, because neither team is doing too well offensively. The Eagles are a respectable 9/19 inside, but just 1/9 from the arc. The Vikings are shooting a little better outside (2/7), but are just 6/23 from deuce-land. PSU is winning the boards by 3 and has 3 more free throws.

Last year's league MVP, Julie Piper, has 10 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals for EWU.

PSU wins, 73-62. After struggling offensively in the first half, the Viks shredded the EWU defense for most of the second. The last few minutes were a comedy of errors for both teams, but Portland State had built a solid lead by then.

PSU swept UM in the regular season, both meetings coming in the last 2 weeks. The game in Portland was much more defensive than the one in Missoula, as the two teams combined for just 7 three pointers in the second meeting compared with 20 in the first.

  • UMT 55-46 UNC; Stephanie Stender gets 11 points & 7 boards in the 2nd. half & gets her first career double-double
        • Katie Baker goes 10/10 from the free-throw line; NoCo was just 8/15 as a team
The Lady Griz outrebounded Northern Colorado 31-14 over the final 25:45
Bear guard D'Shara Strange tied a Big Sky Tournament record with 7 steals
EWU 62-73 PSU; The Eagle D went to hell in the 2nd. half, allowing PSU to shoot 68% after shooting 27% in the 1st.
        • Kelli Valentine had a double-double for the Viks while VanBrocklin led the team with 17 points
The two teams uncharacteristically struggled from the foul line, combining to shoot just 59%
Julie Piper puts up 16 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 steals in her final game as an Eagle

Montana leads by 1 at the break. That's not a good omen for the Lady Griz, though, as they are 0-2 in that situation this year (including the loss in Portland 9 days ago).

*edit* - Never mind, Montana led by 1 at the half when they beat Weber at home.

That's a nice sized gym for women's games.

Going down to the wire with Lady Griz holding a small lead with 3 min to go

56-52

No Lady Griz game is allowed to be comfortable this year, is it? Only 3 of their conference games have been decided by double digits.

I haven't followed them....I'm not much of a BB fan. I only watch the cat games and this time of year.
But Go Griz

Looking good with under a minute

Now 60-54 with 29 seconds left.

Despite the fatigue, UM is on a 14-0 run.

I have no idea why Baker is so off from the line today. She's 2/6 after going 10/10 yesterday.

It's over, Montana wins 62-58.

How they put together that run at the end after 3 games in 3 days, I don't know, but it's awesome nonetheless.
