Seattle joins WAC,
while UVU gets snubbed

Seattle University has officially accepted an invitation to join the Western Athletic Conference, WAC Commissioner Karl Benson announced on Tuesday afternoon.

And in the process, Utah Valley University received one its biggest disappointments.

The two schools, along with Cal State-Bakersfield, were seriously considered for inclusion into a conference that badly needed to expand, for numbers sake alone. With Seattle and UVU both making in-person presentations to the WAC Board of Presidents on Monday afternoon, Seattle was the school that received the call it wanted to hear.

Montana
Montana State
EWU
PSU
ISU
Weber St.
UNC
NAU
SUU
Cal Poly
Sac State
UC Davis
UND

or

Montana
Montana State
Idaho
Louisiana Tech (who's probably leaving)
Utah State
New Mexico State
San Jose State
Denver
Seattle

I'll take option "A". The only thing even remotely attractive about option B is renewing the Idaho rivalry and playing Utah State in basketball. That's IT.

The crazy thing about USU in the WAC is that the move was done without consulting with Stew Morrill, the Aggies boys hoops HC. He wanted to stay in the Big West. The Big West fans would have preferred USU to stay, as well, as they travelled to the BWCT the best of any school in the conference. Too bad the BWC commish had his wet dream of the Cali Bus League, essentially forcing the other schools out. The Big West is probably better off without Idaho, but USU was a great rivalry for UOP.

I'm saying I've never heard of them. Period. What conference are they moving up from?

SD is correct, as per usual.

According to last year's media guide, Seattle was indy for most sports due to their reclass for D-I. They were members of the West Coast Conference (i.e. Gonzaga) for golf, the MPSF, and the PCSC. I still don't know why they didn't become full members of the WCC. They're a perfect fit academically as a Jesuit private school, and would have made a natural travel partner with Gonzaga.

WCC turned them down.

This is the second time Utah Valley and CSU Bakersfield have been snubbed by the WAC. I wonder if each school's athletic director has picked up the phone since their rejection, and given Mr. Fullerton a call. Of course they'll have to wait for Idaho and USU to turn the Sky down
