Former Buccaneer Dobbels Completes Radebaugh's Staff
“We are very pleased to announce the addition of Brad Dobbels to our coaching staff,” said Radebaugh. “Brad is an outstanding coach who has prepared himself well for this next step. He has led Goose Creek High School to new and exciting levels of success. He has won numerous championships and has established Goose Creek as one of the premier high school programs in the southeast. Brad also worked with the TMP (Trademark Properties) AAU basketball program, which is one of the finest AAU programs in the country. He has a tremendous knowledge of the game, is a keen tactician and is big-game tested. Brad is a CSU alum who loves the university and will be a key figure as we continue our march towards winning the Big South Conference.”
“CSU has been transformed with the new buildings and new people. I am honored to help Coach Radebaugh build upon the success that he has achieved the last six years. It’s an exciting time to be a Buc and I look forward to serving the student-athletes at CSU while helping them reach new levels spiritually, academically and athletically,” said Dobbels.
Dobbels has been the head coach at nearby Goose Creek High School for the past 14 seasons, compiling an impressive record of 292-92. In 2008-09, the Gators went 7-0 in league play and 27-2 overall under Dobbels, winning the Class AAA State Championship. A perennial title contender, the Gators went 19-8 in 2010-11. Prior to his time in Goose Creek, Dobbels was the head coach at Hunter-Kinard-Taylor High School in Neeses, S.C. Under his tutelage, Gator guard DeVontae Wright developed into a Division I recruit and is now playing for cross-town rival The Citadel. Dobbels boasts a career record of 329-124, and has a state championship, five Lower State championship game appearances and six region championships. Dobbels has also collected numerous coaching accolades.
“I want to express how excited I am about our 2011-12 coaching staff,” said Radebaugh. “It is unusual to have the turnover in staff that we have experience this year. Our staff last year was extremely talented and experienced, and other coaches took notice of our assistant coaches and the growth we had in our program. I count it a blessing and an honor for our program that we have been able to grow and develop young coaches that are sought after within our profession. While turnover of coaches presents some challenges, it also brings new ideas and excitement. I am beyond thrilled and thankful for the staff we have been able to assemble. Ahmad, BJ, Brad and JT will make up what I believe will be the finest group of assistant coaches in the Big South. Their passion, enthusiasm, professionalism and excellence will be a blessing to our basketball program and to the CSU family. I am truly thankful to God that He has put such a fine staff together. We are blessed.”
I hope this staff can stay together for at least 4 years. If so, look out. Big things are ahead for Buccaneer basketball. Charleston Southern is balzing a trail BACK to March Madness
