Northern Arizona University announced today that Mike Adras has resigned as head coach of the NAU men's basketball team to pursue other opportunities.

"Coach Adras has been a valuable member of the NAU and Flagstaff community for 20 years," said NAU President John Haeger. "We thank him for all he has contributed to the basketball program and to the university, and we and wish him the best in his future endeavors."

Athletics director Jim Fallis announced that Dave Brown, a long-time NAU employee, will serve as interim head coach while a search for a permanent replacement is conducted.

"It's important to maintain stability in the program, and I'm confident in Dave's abilities," Fallis said.

Brown is a member of the NAU Athletics Hall of Fame and former head coach of the NAU's women's basketball team and Yavapai College men's team.

"I'm personally committed to the success of the men's basketball program," Brown said. "I have worked closely with the athletes and the program for years, and I'm confident the Lumberjacks will perform well on and off the court."

Adras served as assistant basketball coach for seven years before becoming head coach in 1999. He compiled a record of 193-170 as head coach.

"I am proud of what my team has built at NAU and of our student athletes," Adras said.

Brown's first meeting with players and assistant coaches is today. He will lead the Lumberjacks against CSU Bakersfield on Saturday in Rolle Activity Center.

The search for a permanent replacement for Adras will begin immediately.

Wow, that's just insane. I assume he wasn't forced out, since NAU returned virtually nothing from last year (& the one notable guy they did return got hurt) and wasn't supposed to be any better than they are right now.

Here's an interview he did that was published just 2 days ago: link
