Sac State upsets EWU in the first QF game, getting their first-ever Big Sky Tournament win in the process. The Eagles really fell apart down the stretch this season after a strong start.

Jamie Craighead should get a lot of credit this season. Her Hornets could have totally thrown in the towel 4 weeks ago when they were 3-9 and 3 games out of 6th. after getting drilled in Missoula. They haven't lost since.

Montana State beats Montana by 9 in the other game, thus ending what was probably the most disappointing season in Lady Griz history. The only positive for Montana is that they don't lose any key players in the offseason.

MSU almost blew a 14-point lead in the final 3 minutes. UM scored 10 in a row quickly & forced a turnover with about a minute left, but couldn't convert when given a chance to cut it to one possession.

Montana forgot how to play.

It looked that way. The last 3 games were night & day compared with how they looked against the 'Cats 2 weeks ago.

NoCo beats the Bobcats in an offensively-challenged first semifinal game. That brings an end to the 2011-12 saga of inconsistency & disappointment surrounding DI women's basketball in the state of Montana (though MSU may be good enough for a WBI bid).

That was also UNC's first-ever Big Sky Tournament win.

#1 Cal Poly went down in the Big West girls tournament today. Why not #1 in the Sky?

Hornets just GOTTA continue the resurgence.

The Hornets fall apart offensively in the second half & lose by 13. The top 2 seeds will square off in the title game for the first time in 3 years & for just the second time in the last 7 years.

If this were football, this would be the worst matchup imaginable. But in the rare air of girls hoops, this will probably be a very good game.

(IF the zebras don't get too involved, that is.)

Next year's women's Big Sky should be even more of a dogfight than this year's was. The only teams to lose multiple significant players are EWU & winless Weber…
  • Idaho St. - Only loss is Pickering
Northern Colorado - Only notable loss is Kaisha Brown
EWU - Loses Cooper & Ryan
Montana St. - Only loss is Bussey
    Montana - No notable losses
Sac State - Only loss is Christensen
Portland St. - Only notable loss is Jones
NAU - No real notable losses; only lose Pratt & Huntington
Weber - Loses Woodfield & Mohre
As for the incoming teams…
  • North Dakota (defending GWC Champs) - No real notable losses; only lose the Mothershed twins (they lose their longtime coach, however)
Southern Utah (defending Summit basement) - No losses at all

Preliminary '12-'13 predictions:
  • 1. Montana
    2. Idaho St.
    3. Northern Colorado
    4. Montana St.
    5. Sac State
    6. Portland St.
    7. NAU
    8. North Dakota
    9. EWU
    10. Southern Utah
    11. Weber

Next Year:

1. Portland State
2. ISU
3. Montana
4. UNC
5. Sac
6. Montana State
7. North Dakota
8. EWU
9. NAU
10. Weber
11. SUU

No, I have nothing to base this on but the results of this year's tournament, a gut feeling, and trust in The Goddess. Feel free to smack it all you want. You will anyway. :kisswink:
