UM Grizzlies vs UW Badgers...

#3 seeded Wisconsin Badgers take on the #13 seeded Montana Grizzlies in Albuquerque. I love that UM received a #13 seed (was figuring on a #14 at best), but don't love this from a match-up standpoint against a Wisconsin team that always seems to feature at least a couple of very skilled Bigs. This could be a problem for the under-sized Griz.
That said, if the Griz shooters can keep on stroking it, things could get very interesting.

I have the Griz through to the Sweet 16. Not as many upsets as normal in my bracket this time, but I see UM taking down Harvard in the Third Round.

In the last 11 years, the Griz & Lady Griz have been selected for the NCAA Tournament a combined 10 times. They have been selected to play on the first day of the Round of 64 and not the second every single time.

I think the Griz would handle Harvard as well. Unfortunately, don't think they'll get the chance. SEC tourney champ Vandy should have too much firepower for the Crimson, and I think Wisco will burst the Griz bubble.
Pretty sure that each of the higher seeds will know that they were in a game though.

after watching the Wisconsin vs. Michigan St game the Griz will have to play stellar D. UW jumped out to a 20-9 advantage and then MSU's D toughened up and the Badgers went cold and were down 35-25 at half. Not saying Montana is equivalent to the Spartans but they do have the athletes to play some defense. here is hoping that the outside shots are falling.

Agreed. The Griz are playing some pretty amazing team bball right now, and the trio of Cherry, Jamar and Ward are clutch. The big question mark right now is Selvig. He's been getting absolutely owned on the defensive end lately, and his jumper's been erratic at best. That said, Montana is a really good perimeter team, and hopefully that will be on display come thursday afternoon! :thumb:

All, I found this post by a Wisconsin fan on at http://www.bigskyfans.com/wildcats/view ... f=2&t=3136" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Big Sky fans and fans familiar with Both teams please add to this. I honestly really have new found respect for Weber State fans from this. Then again, that might be mutual basketball respect thing. It seldom exists on football boards. By the way, thanks to the Weber State fans. By the way, you guys got screwed by the NIT yahoos.

Hi folks, I'm a Wisconsin fan coming in peace. Talking to a few Montana fans, sounds like you guys had a pretty good season in your conference. Got one heck of a point guard from what I hear who will be D1.
We currently have some Montana fans on our board who seem pretty much in fantasy land. They claim that any starter on the Montana team would be better than a starter on the Wisconsin team and :blah: . I'd love to hear an unbiased view of Montana's weaknesses/strengths and the like. I've heard they've got a really good guard in Cherry, but haven't heard too many weaknesses as it is. Good luck with everything and hopefully see you down the road.

Had a bad game against Weber on the 28th, but the rest have been pretty good lately.

Griz need to start dropping their 3s if they want a chance.

Wisc is shooting lights out and we are close, can't complain too much. I do wish they would call it the same on both ends of the floor though.

If the Griz get too far behind they could use their fans to help out.

I give props to the Montana fans that stuck with it and actually picked them to advance, but I had Wisconsin by 20+ in a bet with some people and it sucks but I won. I saw Wisconsin play 8 games this year on tv and knew coming in it would be pretty tough to hang on with them.

Still a hell of a great season for the Griz, UM fans everywhere should be proud.

Wisconsin played & shot really well, and the Griz played poorly. There's not much else to say—it was a rerun of the Oregon State game.

Montana played great offense the first 15 minutes and decent defense the rest of the way, but they played lousy defense the first 15 minutes and lousy offense for the rest.

Great season for the Griz...but this is what happens to teams that play in very bad conferences. The change in talent level once the tourney hits is tough to adjust to in one game.

You do know Weber has an NBA lottery pick, right?

One player in the 25th (out of 30) ranked conference...compared to the B10. The talent jump is HUGE.

Griz aren't the only ones that are seeing this problem. Look at most of the 13-16 seeds. The talent level top to bottom doesn't prepare them to face the B10 schools.

FWIW, I doubt UNI would have fared any better against Wisconsin today.
