I think it is a must do for the likes of vcu and GMU. But it is not much of a jump.
In a world of million dollar homes, it is like moving from a $625,000 house to a $725,000 house. The real reason to make the move is that the $625,000 house may be only worth $500,000 if others move out of the neighborhood. It is a defensive move.

Talk talk talk. Just do it. Leave. Go away! The sooner the better. Good bye, good luck and good riddance. Don't let the door hit you in the rear on the way out. And I'm sure that your new A-10 friends will dislike you as much as your old CAA friends in a New York minute. Soon you'll have a whole new cast of "haters".

Word today from the VCU AD is they stay in the CAA for one more year. Now to see what Mason will do. Personally Mason stays also at least 1 more year . They may leave together but not now. Butler could be another story. :twocents:

Report:
Butler joining the A10 in 2013

Image

By Matt Norlander | Senior College Basketball Blogger

One of America's most popular underdog basketball programs is getting a promotion.

ESPN.com's Andy Katz is reporting that Butler will leave the Horizon League, which has been a flagship member of conference since its 1979 inception, and head to the Atlantic 10 for the start of the 2013-14 season.

The official move is expected to come Wednesday, according to ESPN.com. The move completes a 14-team qouta within the league, since Temple is jettisoning for the Big East next year in basketball; the Owls' football program joins the Big East later this year, in the fall.

May 2, 2012

Dear Butler Community,

I am pleased to announce that Butler University will join the Atlantic 10 Conference beginning with the 2013-2014 season.

The move will cover all Butler athletic teams except football, which will remain in the Pioneer League, and woman’s golf. The Atlantic 10 does not host women’s golf, so Butler will look to another conference for that sport.

The move makes sense for Butler academically. The Atlantic 10 ranked third among all Division I conferences in the most recent NCAA graduation rates, with 89 percent of student-athletes graduating.

Moving to the Atlantic 10 allows us to associate and compete with institutions with outstanding academic profiles and values. They value the experience of the student-athlete.

Although some competitions may be further in distance, the out-of-class time for our student-athletes will be reduced because many A-10 games are scheduled for weekends and not all schools in the conference play each other every year. Rest assured, our student success in the classroom will never be compromised.

Joining the Atlantic 10 also increases Butler’s visibility beyond the Midwest, which means greater student recruitment opportunities, enhanced alumni engagement, and fundraising in the Eastern states.

While we expect our students to set high aspirational goals, we also set high goals and aspirations for Butler University. We should constantly search for new ways to raise our level of competition in academics, fund-raising, reputation, student recruitment and all other aspects of the University. And, we must associate ourselves with peer and aspirant schools with high stature and like values.

We look forward to joining the long tradition of excellence in the Atlantic 10 Conference.

Sincerely,

James M. Danko
President

Q&A with Brett McMurphy of CBS Sports

Post by EPJr »

Image

In a college sports environment that has seen a boom in conference realignment action, there may be no busier journalist than CBS Sports’ own Brett McMurphy. A Tampa native, McMurphy spent 22 years with the Tampa Tribune before moving on to cover college football and basketball for AOL FanHouse.

At FanHouse, McMurphy was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize in the breaking news category after uncovering a story about a college football coach who struck a player, lied about it, covered it up and tampered with witnesses in the school’s investigation, which was prompted by McMurphy’s reporting.

Ram fans however are probably more familiar with McMurphy’s recent work, as he was the first to report VCU, along with Butler and George Mason were in talks with the Atlantic 10 to join the conference. McMurphy recently took time out from his busy schedule to answer a few questions for VCURamNation.com.

Brett McMurphy of CBS Sports is reporting VCU will leave CAA for the Atlantic 10 conference.

The change would move VCU from the Colonial Athletic Association, of which they have been members since 1995, to the now 14-team Atlantic 10 conference, a conference that includes parennial power Xavier, crosstown rival Richmond, and the newly added Butler Bulldogs, who VCU last faced in Houston, Texas as a part of the 2011 Final 4.

Does this mean the CAA tournament can be played somewhere else that Richmond? Does VCU play anything other than basketball?

Cincinnati-Xavier game to neutral site?

..officials from the two schools have decided to move the game away from its alternating home-and-home fixtures for the next two seasons in an "attempt to improve the climate surrounding the game," according to the report.

After a two-season "trial period," the schools will evaluate the behavior of players and fans before renewing the series or scheduling venues, the newspaper reported.

CBS Sports: ATLANTIC TEN CONFERENCE WIDE OPEN

Post by EPJr »

Image
With Kwamain Mitchell returning, can Rick Majerus' Billikens win the A-10? (Getty Images)

The Atlantic 10 had an up-and-down campaign last season. For a time, it looked like it could get five or six bids -- but that suddenly dropped off as the contenders beat up on each other. On Selection Sunday, the league ended up with four bids, aided by St. Bonaventure's surprising run to the automatic bid. However, only Xavier made it out of the first weekend.

In 2012-13, the conference looks poised to have several contenders -- and a wide-open race for the title. Moreover, newcomer Virginia Commonwealth is going to turn things upside-down immediately. This should be a fun year.
