Disclaimer: I didn't read the article, so some of this might be restated information.
I don't think it will. Neither the jeweler nor Thomas can be compelled by a NCAA subpoena...and because the NCAA can't subpoena, they have no leverage. If the court settlement includes a confidentiality agreement between the two parties, then Duke will get off on a technicality. No evidence, no case, no penalties, no problem. Once games start, this will become an afterthought- provided neither Thomas nor the jeweler talk to the NCAA. I've heard that the jeweler has said that they won't. Thomas certainly won't (as far as I know).

As for the Tressel comparison, that's way too premature. No one knows how much Duke and Coach K knew, if anything at all. Now, if K or the Duke compliance department knew, then we might have something. As for right now, I bet this story goes away. Kinda funky that Duke has this issue crop up around the same time that UNC has issues with transcripts and whatnot. Times are changing in the NCAA's and media's pursuit of misdeeds at the college level.

I hope so - DUKE is dirty (like most major programs) - good if they get nailed. NCAA gave them a pass on Boozer - somehting that would have gotten a lesser program nailed.

The NCAA has handed down significant punishments for less. If it turns out he got illegal benefits, no doubt Duke should vacate some wins and its title. It'll be interesting to see how this turns out.
