A New D-I Record...

...for futility.

Northern Illinois scored a whopping FOUR first-half points en route to a 42-25 loss to Eastern Michigan today. The Huskies set dubious shot-clock era records for shooting futility in a half (3.2%) and in a game (13.1%). They also tied the mark for fewest made baskets in a half (1), and that was a fast break layup in the first minute. NIU followed that up with 29 straight misses. NIU posted the PREVIOUS record with five first-half points in a blowout loss to Dayton back in December.

Sure, they're youth-heavy (they're pretty much a frosh/soph team), but does a team like that really belong in D-I?

Maybe. If they can overcome the humiliation to use that experience as juniors and seniors, that is. The human brain can be a fragile thing....

Apparently, the recored for a women's D-I game was set in 2010 by Tennessee State. They lost to GA Tech 82-11, only getting THREE points in the first half (tying THAT record).

All this goes to show, Venus, that you don't HAVE to be a girl to suck....
