It was an ugly game, the Jags were up by as much as 17 but both teams combined for 67 fouls. SU had 4 guys foul out to 1 by MVSU. Javan Mitchell stepped up with 18 points and 7 boards

Yes I saw the email plenty of guys on your squad had multiple fouls.Smith was the only player on Valley that has 5 fouls. He finished with 13 points and 11 boards. What was it everyone decided to throw up bricks yesterday???Where was my guy Miller this looked like a game he could have put a career high and been the main reason your school won.Did you watch the massacre at Pine Bluff last night???Have thread on that as well.tampajag wrote:It was an ugly game, the Jags were up by as much as 17 but both teams combined for 67 fouls. for whatever reason Miller only played 13 minutes last night, I'll have to look in to that. I'm just glad we won, Valley is a place where whe never win no matter what kind of team we have.dal4018 wrote:Yes I saw the email plenty of guys on your squad had multiple fouls.Smith was the only player on Valley that has 5 fouls. What is the deal they put a spell on your team a la "Screamin" Jay Hawkins lol. They need to start using their size to dominate the league only Alcorn,Alabama St ,Jackson St.A&M has players that could cause them problems.Last night Alcorn should have used their 7ft Nicholas much more vs Pine Bluff. The tallest player they have was Hayes at 6-8 and he as stated before made ESPN top ten highlights twice on alley oop dunks he had 4 he scored on three of them.He missed the last one if he had made the last one that would have been the top highlight on ESPN.Why recruit post players if you don't plan on using them???tampajag wrote:for whatever reason Miller only played 13 minutes last night, I'll have to look in to that. I agree, the swac for whatever reason typically is guard oriented.

That is a waste of a valuable recruit no wonder they get smoked by non-conference teams. The coaches don't realize that they could have their cake and eat it too employ a uptempo style and get big men that can rebound and start the fast break.I hope Southern uses Moore to the utmost of his ability he at 6-10 is the tallest player you guys have.He looks to have some ability from the perimeter and he needs to put on a extra 20-30 pounds. The last time a school from the SWAC used their big men effectively was years ago when Tx.Southern coached by Robert Moreland put a major scare into Arkansas in the '95 NCAA tournament by surrounding Corliss Williamson with bigger post players. As a matter of fact they had a size advantage at just about every position. If this guy named Randy Brewer as a 6-3 frosh had made his foul shots they would pulled off one of the biggest upsets in the history of the tournament.

That was a good team, but even that team had two great guards in Kevin Adams and Kevin Granger. Southern had some battles in the '90s with JSU,TSU, and Valley. I loved the 8 team SWAC.dal4018 wrote:That is a waste of a valuable recruit no wonder they get smoked by non-conference teams. If this guy named Randy forgot his last name as a frosh had made his foul shots they would pulled off one of the biggest upsets in the history of the tournament.

Re: Southern U 78 Mississippi Valley 74
Yeah I remember those two guys especially Granger ,he was given some exposure by ESPN and their show "Black College Sports Today" as a frosh of impact a la Jason Kidd ,but it was the play of the big men that kept the Tigers ,from being blown out and plus the fact Moreland went against his natural tendency, to play run-n-gun basketball. When it came to a frosh of influence ,I think your guy Tim Roberts the 6-5 200 shooting guard got robbed ,he as a frosh had one of the highest scoring averages among frosh in '93 24.5 ppg.He as you know was apart of that team that pulled the upset over Ga.Tech, knocking them out of the tournament 93-78 by going three point crazy in the second half hoisting 15 threes as a team.Everyone knows who ran the show at JSU in the 90s Lindsey Hunter a frustrated shooting guard stuck inside a point guards frame. There was a guy named Harold Ellis a athletic 6-5 205 shooting guard from Div.II Morehouse College if Hunter had his size he would have been a member of the then NJ Nets they wanted him real bad.He and Kenny Anderson would have made a nice backcourt.I remember Alphonso Ford from Valley taken by the Sixers as a second round pick another frustrated shooting guard in a point guards body.JSU also had a backup point guard named Ryan Lothridge 6-4 190 that if Bob Lanier as head coach of the Warriors had developed could have been a bigger version of Avery Johnson. He had the talent but Lanier felt he didn't take the game seriously enough.tampajag wrote:That was a good team, but even that team had two great guards in Kevin Adams and Kevin Granger. Re: Southern U 78 Mississippi Valley 74
Marcus Mann in '96 from Valley was the last post player from the SWAC that was drafted into the NBA a undersized 6-8 power forward that was one of the best juco players in the country.I think Moore,Nicholas West from Alabama A&M could have NBA potential both are 6-10 between 190-215 pounds. Both have nice strokes from the perimeter. They just need ppl to pass them the ball like Pine Bluff did last night. Also the guys from Alabama St(Devonte Neal,Timothy Coleman) Alcorn St (Josh Nicholas,Stephane Paquil)could find a place in the NBA as well. With the exception of the others only Neal is a frosh (redshirt)all are 6-10 and up.Terrell Green a frosh at Alabama St has potential as a decent potential as point guard.

Davon Usher put up good numbers 25 pts 10 boards. Those type of numbers should belong to Valley's big men Montreal Holley the 7-1 260 center or Julius Francis their 6-11 260 power forward.grizzaholic wrote:97 FT's Attempted???!!!
