Who knew Mickey Matthews helped recruit people on the basketball team?
"The Harrisonburg (VA.) Daily News-Record reported that James Madison senior forward Rayshawn Groins, the team's leading scorer, was arrested Sunday night, and his status is uncertain with the team scheduled to play Long Island University in an NCAA tournament play-in game Wednesday night.
According to the report, Goins was arrested on charges of obstruction of justice and disorderly conduct. He was was released on his own recognizance on $2,500 unsecured bond. The arrest stemmed from an incident at a team party Saturday night.
"The athletic administration is aware of the situation," Madison officials said in a statement. "We will not be providing any additional comments until we review this matter (Monday)."
Goins averages 12.7 points and 7.4 rebounds a game for James Madison."
Party on, dude!

Not necessarily screwed. Have 3 players that avg about 12 pts per game- Goins is the leading scorer by about .5 pts per game.
For various reasons earlier this yr when JMU wasn't playing nearly as well some on the JMU board who follow bball were calling for Goins to be benched. Apparently a very inconsistent player. He played very well against Northeastern in the tourney.
A doughy 6'6", 265, he doesn't have the endurance to go long stretches in fast paced games. JMU is a fast paced team, as apparently is LIU, so this won't hurt as bad as it would playing a team that was more half court. Will still hurt, but JMU will still have a decent chance to beat LIU without Goins.
Now to have an even 1% chance to beat Indiana would need Goins at the top of his game. So IF JMU beats LIU, now close to 0% chanced of upsetting Indiana.

Police Arrest College Basketball Star after Large Weekend Party
HARRISONBURG -- Rayshawn Goins, a James Madison University basketball star, is facing two misdemeanor charges from an incident this weekend.
Police officers responded to a call of a large party on the 800 block of Port Republic Road on Sunday at 12:30 a.m.
When officers arrived, private security personnel said the party was too big. Officers asked everyone to leave. According to police, as the officers attempted to disperse more than 200 people from the party, Goins began yelling obscenities at the officers and enticing the crowd. Officers asked him to leave several times and he was taken away by friends.
Because police knew who Goins was and officers were concerned for the safety of the public if the crowd turned riotous, they decided not to arrest Goins at that time.
Later Sunday evening, the Harrisonburg Police Department charged Goins with disorderly conduct and knowingly attempting to intimidate or impede law-enforcement. Both are misdemeanors.
Goins will be suspended for the first half of the NCAA tournament game on Wednesday."

For a misdemeanor? Nope:
"In accordance with JMU athletic policy, Coach Matt Brady is suspending Rayshawn Goins for the first half of the NCAA Tournament game on Wednesday night in Dayton. After having thoroughly reviewed the details in this case the athletic administration supports Coach Brady's decision. Matters involving student athletes are reviewed independently on a a case by case basis. Appropriate action is taken based on the details of each case. At this time there are no additional details to provide until this specific case processes through the legal system."

Cracking the whip. I'm shocked that JMU took such a hardline stance on this.

Could have beat LIU without Goins.....
Played about 1/2 the 2nd half. Threw up some close range bricks, managed to get 4 points. Was impressive on the boards.

Yeah, because you were there and know what happened..

Here is the thing. Either suspend him for a game, or the entire post season, or no suspension. Pick one. This one half suspension stuff is bullshit. You know it, I know it, the little kid on the corner knows it. It doesn't send a good message.
