Shot Clock

Look for the men's game to adopt a shorter shot clock soon. At least to 30 seconds, maybe less. Probable to implement for the 2014-15 season.

Good point - the NBA gives you 8 seconds. The Shaka Smart's & Rick Pitino's of the world would salivate at that one. Lower shot clock would also be endorsed by zone teams like the Cuse.

IMO, 35 should be used for HS, 30 for College, and 24 for NBA. 35 for college is too long with teams sometimes running 2 plays on one possession. That shouldn't happen. And I would keep the back court count at 10 seconds.

Hey, why not just have the players shoot within 5 seconds of inbounding the ball? That would liven up the pace. Woo-hooo!

We already know one poster has the attention span of a gnat, but what is wrong with watching a team work the ball around until a bit they find a weakness in the defense?

Cripes, Ross will now have an excuse to let Saddler and Threat jack up poor shots while ignoring the possibility of running a play that would work the ball inside.

Let's move the college game closer to the pro game where it's all about boring isolation plays and suck all of the teamwork and strategy out of the game. I love college basketball because of the variations in style and strategy and obviously don't have much use for the pro game. IMO a shorter shot clock also favors the generally more talented major teams and hurts potential Cinderellas.

Sounds like more support for going all the way to 24 vs 30, didn't expect to hear that. That would change the college game dramatically.

Moving the shot clock to 30 seconds is not going to make a huge difference. Teams will have to work quicker yes, but I would much rather watch a slightly quicker paced game than a Big 10 borefest. And of course, it will make the team's first play much more important since they will not have the necessary time to complete another whole play. And I have to disagree with you on the last part where you say the major teams will have more of an advantage. The cinderellas rely on guard play and a shorter shot clock will help a smaller team run more against a larger team that likes to set things up down low.

There was not enough support among coaches from all three divisions to shorten the shot clock.

Shame the shot clock wasn't changed but I was happily surprised to read about the new block/charge rule - that's good for the game (bad for Duke).
