Russell (now a sophomore) was the leading returning scorer for the Lumberjacks (14.4 ppg). Apparently he wasn't getting along with second-year head coach Jack Murphy.

This departure really hurts. NAU just lost an exhibition game to Arizona Christian despite 27 points from Russell.

Huge loss, especially at this point in the season. Should make the battle for the last BSC Tourney spot even more interesting.

He'll land somewhere, but will have to sit this season due to transfer rules.

Jon at bigskyhoops.com says he butted heads with the coach. Sad part is he played in the exhibition game and then bailed making his loss even that much worse.

Otherwise, you'd have players bailing all the time. Imagine a great player on a bad team - Kentucky gets a player hurt in preseason. They call the player up - hey, transfer now. Chaos.
