Mount St. Joseph's freshman forward Lauren Hill died this morning following a year-plus long battle with diffused intrinsic pontine giloma (DIPG), a rare form of pediatric brain cancer. She was 19.

Prior to her death, Lauren was named to the All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference First Team and to the All-HCAC Sportsmanship Team.

Yeah, sad to happen to a 19 year old. At least good that she did some good on her way out with all the money and awareness she raised.

IIRC, the chemo and radiation therapy had a lot to do with that. DIPG is often inoperable, so that's how they had to go about treating it....
