There is not a single bad seat in that place. Every seat there faces the court, instead of some arenas where you have to turn your head to see the court.
The place is amazing when it has a good crowd in it. The acoustics, like the dome, make it extremely loud.

Illinois really, really needs a new basketball arena - arena is 45 years old, only a few months younger than me.
Cool looking from the outside
Had season tickets when I was there

Assembly Hall (both of them in the Big 10) are icons.
I like Illinois keeping it around... as a tradition. If they do replace it... I hope it's with something worth and not a generic "value city arena" that could be anywhere in the country.
Williams Arena is my favorite... of course it was where I saw my first basketball game, so I might be biased... but the raised floor, the old midwestern fieldhouse (for real, not a madeup fieldhouse)... classic

I think the last plan was to renovate it inside.
Have you ever seen a game at Vanderbilt's Memorial Gym? that is a classic.

nope... the barn is a beloved institution it's well preserved and in good shape... the sports complex at Minnesota is going to be an amazing thing this fall... williams arena, mariucci arena (hockey) and TCF Bank Stadium all in one intersection.

Now that Bryant is D-I, any plans to upgrade to a bigger facility?

not unless they leave the NEC. I still think they would move to the Patriot League if invited. The Chace Center was built in 2001 so I figure it would be sometime for a new facility unless they needed a bigger place to play. Also the school has put a lot more resources into "winnable sports" from what I have seen. Lacrosse, Golf, Women's Soccer, Football, Tennis etc.. Sports where even being a low major they have a shot with a few good players and the resources poured in.

Some pictures of the McLeod Center I took at work today. The court has been taken out because basketball season is over at the McLeod. I will make notes with each photo so you can tell what you are looking at. The quality isn't great they were taken with my cell phone...deal.
Looking SE from the NW corner of the concourse. The wood bleachers is the student section. You can see the upper concourse on the left, this is where some of the pregame alumni festivities are held. Where the sun is shining in like crazy are the doors and 3 vertical windows on each side. The glass pane in the upper left has all of the volleyball titles and tournament information engraved on it. There is one if each corner for different sports boosters. The big screen shows the cameras during the game, and those are the main score boards with player info on them.
This is a better full view of the east side of the McLeod. Again the light, even at the top is coming from the outside, it is actually really cool to see, especially at night from the outside. The west side is identical, however, on the upper level there is 8 "personal suites". Behind each of the wood things on the left leads to me or women bathrooms, and to the left of that is the concessions, and you can see the start of another set of bathrooms (there is a set in each corner).
This photo is the North end, and the door on the floor leads into the locker rooms, some offices and the connector to the UNIDome floor. The hoops are folded for the year, and the bleachers are retractable. This is so that if there is a concert in there the stage can be put on the end if they want. The concourse bleachers are retractable and can be moved if needed. The suite that you see is the alumni association suite. This used to be 3 suites, including the presidents suite, but was made into 1. Meetings, pregame parties, press conferences, etc... are all held in there. I work in the office on the other side of the suite, and am actually posting thins from there. Again sunlight coming in through windows. There are also doors that lead out there and an entrance to the walk way from the McLeod to the dome, which of course means the dome is out those windows.
This is a slightly less brighter picture than the last one
The west side seating and set up wise is exactly the same as the east side. It looks cooler with the floor in, but we have a show coming in to use the McLeod so we took the floor out, and it will probably stay out until basketball camps start in the spring/summer. These photos were taking about the same spot as the other one I posted, so that will give you some idea of what it looks like during a game. It is 24 rows high.

the fade doesn't look that bad. URI used to have it and I thought it was gross. Right behind the basketball for the freethrow circle.
