Changes include:
-30 second shot clock
-Arc under the basket will be extended from 3 to 4 feet out
-Teams can only carry 3 timeouts into the 2nd half (still have 5 total)
-Coaches cannot call timeouts during live-ball situations
-No more five-second rule when guarding an opponent
-Additionally the women's game will use four 10-minute quarters next season rather than the traditional twenty-minute half

All changes will take effect starting in 2015-16. Next season's postseason tournaments (NIT, CBI, CIT) will experiment with a sixth foul, which the NBA already does, though largely because the games are eight minutes longer. Also, they are removing the prohibition of dunking during warm-ups, which I didn't know was a thing.

I like the men's changes except for them now allowing dunks in warmups. That's just asking for something bad to happen to the basket before the game starts. Also, to clarify the above, they're only eliminating the 5-second guarding rule for a dribbling ball-handler.

The women's change to quarters seems rather random, though. I don't get the purpose or why coaches, etc., appear to be totally behind a rather left-field rule change. Having the men's & women's timing rules be so vastly different is just an odd idea.

For once, I agree (somewhat) with Venus, particularly re the new disparity in men's and women's rules. That's asking for a disaster if the NCAA and the conferences don't maintain two separate officiating pools.

On the one hand, I like aligning the timing to the HS/NBA quarters (I'm highly influenced by football there, BTW), but I really don't like the idea of resetting team fouls after each quarter. Under the current proposal, the single bonus threshold at seven team fouls resulting in a one-and-one is removed, and the double bonus threshold (currently set at ten team fouls) is now set at FIVE team fouls in any given quarter. Personally, I think that changes the game a bit much for my taste. I'd prefer to keep the present setup: reset team fouls at the HALF, and allow team fouls to carry over from 1Q to 2Q and from 3Q to 4Q, leaving the two-level bonus system in place.

I'd be interested to see what our resident officiating guru has to say about all of this.
