It's not a shock

Only D1 team undefeated all time against #1 teams.

It's what we do

dback- check out the Big East thread. He's was in there crowing. As he should have been. Very nice win. Got to give NC credit for going on the road against a very formidable opponent. I suspect it was because Paige is from the area but since he was injured and they lost not much of a homecoming for him. There were lesser teams they could have played.

Crowing?

Verbatim

Yep. Certainly "crowing"

If you want me to crow, I certainly can. UNI played far from a perfect game, and I mean it wasn't close to perfect. Down 9 at half, UNC built it to 16 real early in the second half with a couple quick baskets. At that point UNI completely took over. Showed more heart, more hustle, more want, worked harder, and shut UNC's offense down. They had 26 second half points - half came in the first few minutes.

The game was played because Paige played high school ball at Linn-Mar (the school district I now live in). An hour south of Cedar Falls. UNC has played Iowa (40 minutes form Linn-Mar) and Iowa State (2 hours from Linn-Mar) the last two years. He played was a high school teammate of UNI starting SG Matt Bohannon. The 6'4 Bohannon had 19 points 6 boards and a steal on 6-12 shooting and 4-10 from deep. Bohannon, coming into the year, already holds the UNI career record for 3-pointers made in MVC games (114) • Ranks No. 4 at UNI in 3-pointers made in his career (175) • Ranks No. 4 at UNI in 3-pointers attempted in his career (458).

Paige warmed up in uniform and was announced to the crowd before the game. He got a standing ovation, because Iowa natives are classy like that.

Kennedy Meeks may be the best big man in the nation (or top 5). He scored UNC's first 8 points in the first 3 minutes, then just 2 the rest of the game. That's with UNI's s biggest weakness being post players after losing an All American.

UNI scored more points in the paint, held the rebound total pretty close (especially since UNI doesn't crash the offensive boards ever), held UNC to just 2 fast break points, more second chance points (9-6), more points off turn overs (11-7), had more steals (8-3), forced 12 turn overs, had 4 players score at least 10 points, and if not for Justin Jackson going off in the second half for UNC for 11 of his points and Bryce Johnson scoring 8 of his 10 this game isn't close by the end.

Is that enough crowing? It feels odd to do

That's what I wanted to see...

I didn't read the Big East Thread before I made the thread - didn't think to check that for a MVC-ACC game...

I don't feel the need to start a thread about the MVC.

No, but for this great win was thread worthy

It was a great game. Was talking to a colleague this morning that was in Cedar Falls for the UNI FB game and he said he couldn't believe how loud it was outside the McLeod Center during the BB game.

I wasn't there either but from what he described I bet it was comparable to the WSU game.

Add a victory over Iowa State (ranked #5 in the AP poll, #2 in the coaches poll) to UNI's list.
Technically a neutral site, though the majority of the crowd was ISU.

Panthers definitely find a way to step up for marquee matchups, though they struggle at times in other games.

Game was a half hour from Iowa State's home arena. It was an ISU home game.

UNI vs the AP top 5 this year? 2-0
All other unranked teams vs the AP top 25? 3-46 combined

Another outstanding win.

What happened in the three losses? Injuries? Bad matchups? Young team?

Looks like a MVC title this year with Wichita State's injuries.

Young team not being consistent, especially on the road a couple thousand miles from home

And the inconsistency continues. 7 losses already after beating UNC. Wow.

Better watch it. Belmont is gaining on you in the computer rankings. They already left Colorado State in the dust.

+66 in conference play point differential yet sitting at 2-2 because SIU shot 60% from three despite being a 35% team the rest of the year and won by 2 and MSU managed a 1 point win on a buzzer beater

Shit like that drives me nuts.
ODU has lost a couple this year like that.

Uni getting 14 today vs Wichita State? Seems like a lock.

WSU has the longest home win streak in the nation.

Last years top 10 ranked UNI team went into Wichita the last game of the season with the conference title on the line and lost by 17 or 19

So....it's not

Glad I was wrong

UNI 53
WSU 50

43 game home win streak snapped for WSU

I think the Loyola game is another opportunity for UNI. 1 point spread. No problem.

Only game left I don't "feel good" about is at Evansville. UNI is something like 2-14 the last 8 years in the state of Indiana and it'll be senior day for Evansville.

The midseason injury/sickness bug killed this team.

Starting PG, Wes Washpun, took a fall in Hawaii and really messed his back up.
Started WG, Jeremy Morgan, suffered a wrist injury early in Jan that the staff thought should have ended his season. He hasn't missed a start. Been playing with a brace on his shooting hand.
Starting G/F, Paul Jesperson, was immensely sick with the flu for about 2 weeks. Spent 8 hours in a hospital hooked to an IV on a game day and played.
Starting SG, Matt Bohannon, see above with Jesperson. He and Paul were in the hospital the same day.

It's a completely different team right now than it was when everyone was going through those issues.
