NoDak's women also choked away the outright title by losing in Portland. They share the title with MSU and fall to the #2-seed. Scores/results to come later…

The first round of men's games are done. NoDak beat Portland State to clinch the #1-seed and at least a share of the title while Sac lost to NoCo in Greeley to clinch the #7-seed.

Looks like it won't be a shared title as NAU leads EWU by 20 nearing halftime.

Eastern will be the #2-seed either way.

Idaho beats Southern Utah, so the Vandals clinch a bye and the #4-seed. The T-Birds clinch the #11-seed and no better than a share of last place. That also means Idaho State has clinched the #10-seed and will play Sac State in the first round regardless of what happens tonight.

NAU upset Eastern Washington by double digits. The 'Jacks had already clinched #9, so the game didn't really matter for them. The Eagles, though they'd already secured the #2-seed, missed out on a chance to share the title & put up a banner. North Dakota is therefore the outright Big Sky Champions.

Implications of tonight's games:

ISU @ UMT - The Bengals have already clinched #10, but a win would at least keep them from sharing last. If the Griz win, they'll get the #5-seed and play Idaho in the quarters. If the Griz lose, they'll get the #6-seed and play SUU in the first round.

MSU @ WEB - The winner gets a bye and the #3-seed. The loser will get either #5 or #6 depending on how Montana does.

Final Regular-Season Men's Standings

Montana beat ISU with ease to clinch the #5-seed and a bye—the Griz oddly finish with a better road record than home record in conference play. Weber beat the Bobcats to get #3, while MSU ends up at #6 and having to play Tuesday.

Portland State Fires Tyler Geving

Post by Mvemjsunpx »

He'd been at PSU 12 years including his time as Ken Bone's assistant.

http://www.goviks.com/news/2017/3/15/ty ... 17-18.aspx

Surprised at this for two reasons…

1. He still had 2 years left on his contract.

2. He had a knack for doing just enough to not get fired, and I thought his team had pulled that off yet again. He was kinda the Rasputin of the Big Sky (look up Chris Berman & Wayne Fontes to get what I'm referencing here).

Whoever replaces Geving, I wonder if they'll actually recruit some high-school players instead of just transfers. The Viks had 6 seniors this year, and just one was a 4-year guy (Zach Gengler). :?

Portland State Finally Makes Its Hire

After weeks of speculation it would be Luke Jackson, the Viks end up going with Santa Clara assistant Barret Peery. Peery is also a former PSU & SUU assistant and an SUU alum.

Vik fans like the hire. Duck fans do not, but who cares. Its high time they realize athletics in the state of Oregon do not revolve around the Oregon Ducks.
