I agree they likely won't make the Final 4, but they should make a decent showing in the tournament. I do think that Tony Bennett is one of the best coaches in the country though. Virginia should do everything they can to keep him around for a while. And if he can compete with the Duke's, UNC's, UK's, etc, for some of the top recruits, they may finally land a Championship one year.
Bennett copies from his father when it comes to offense the more they advanced the harder it will be to play SLOW DOWN BASKETBALL.

Louisiana-Lafayette loses to UT-Arlington in the Sun Belt semi. :thumb:

ULL is the first team I've learned to loathe in the new conference.

Ridiculous that MTSU has an RPI of 32 and freaking Texas gets in over them.

Basketball needs to have it's equivalent of the Utah BCS lawsuit.

Yep, but at least the mid-majors don't get screwed as much as they used to (or as much as the women's mid-majors do).

I also thought it was ridiculous that Arizona State got in ahead of USC.

I'd rather have Notre Dame in there than a lot of the ones that just made it (UCLA, Oklahoma, Syracuse, Providence, or 'Bama).

Why? USC beat ONE tournament team all season - #12 New Mexico State

Arizona State beat:

#1 @ Kansas
#1 Xavier
#9 @Kansas State
#11 UCLA
#11 San Diego State

and USC

USC finished 4 games higher than ASU in the Pac-12.
USC won 6 of their last 8 games.
ASU lost 5 of their last 6 games.
USC ranked 32 spots higher in the RPI—they were 34th. and somehow didn't get in. :?

I don't care one bit about either team, but ASU seems to be no more than a shell of what they were in the first part of the season. There are probably other teams that deserved to be in ahead of them, too (e.g., MTSU), but USC was the obvious case because they're in the same conference.

Last 10 games is no longer a criteria.
RPI has been de-emphasized
Quadrant (dividing the NCAA into four sections) wins is emphasized. ASU had 3 Q1 wins, USC had zero.

I really don't understand this logic. It's illogical. Can someone explain their reasoning for this with a straight face?

Personally, both should have gotten in.

Yeah, I know; the point is that the new criteria is stupid.

I understand why they wouldn't want the non-conference to be deemphasized, but they shouldn't ignore cases where a team is obviously weaker than they were in the non-conference season. If a team fades, it's usually because of injury or because they're getting schemed better after they've played several games—those things aren't likely to change in the NCAA Tournament.

I can probably do it with this face...but I can't guarantee it.

Well, I don't have a straight face, but they are looking at the entire season, not just a sub-section of it.

So, we're looking at NCAAT, NIT, CIT, and CBI on the men's side, and NCAAT, WNIT, and WBI on the women's side? Does anyone have all the brackets yet?
