MBB - National #1 Gonzaga lost to St. Mary's in the West Coast championship game, ending a 21-game winning streak.

WBB - National #12 Gonzaga lost to BYU for the third time this season in the West Coast Championship game. Gonzaga's only other loss came to #1 Notre Dame. Oh, and BYU actually lost to Southern Utah back in November. :o

They play basketball over there?

Why were they #1 anyway?

I thought they actually lost to the Heels

SMC played great defense especially in rebounding and transition. They're a decent team with several solid wins, a close loss to LSU, and a tough OOC schedule. They'll be a 8-10 seed.

GU simply shot the ball horribly - especially Norvell who was 1-11 and they went 2-17 as a team from 3. Might be a recipe for how to beat them, but also might be a wake up call.

"They" were saying that SMC would not make the tourney without a win over Zaga. Now that they are in the tourney, how does that effect seating for the team that comes out of the Big Sky? The last bracketology that I saw has the griz as a 14 seed, would this move them down (if they win the tourney) to a 15 possibly?

Well, Gonzaga was the only team so far this year to beat a full Duke squad, they had that going for them.

Duke is a one trick pony with their full squad

They’re the #3 team in the ACC (at best) without their pony

OK, I guess Gonzaga's women had a few legit excuses. They lost Jill Townsend & Laura Stockton (John's daughter) to injuries in the semis, and coach Lisa Fortier had to leave in the 4th. quarter of the championship game due to a family medical emergency.

This is great news for the WCC, it means they will get 2 teams in which means more NCAA payout $$$.

I would put money on Portland State.

Sure Eastern, Montana, and a couple others have a chance but Montana doesn't shoot the ball well enough to win this tournament. They do play defense and sometimes thats enough but i dont feel it this year.

If Duke is fully healthy then they are on a very short list of teams (maybe 3 or 4) that will win the tourney. If anyone of them gets hurt (and not just Zion) then they are in trouble and could even be knocked off on the first weekend. Zero room for injuries on that team, they are very top heavy.

Will the Zags still get a #1 seed with that dog-screwing loss?

They should I think. Will depend on ACC Championship in my mind. If North Carolina loses, then Gonzaga should be in good shape

I was thinking no until Florida State beat Virginia yesterday. Now I'm more clueless than usual.

I do think the Tarholes and Dook will both get #1 seeds though. :ohno:
