3/24 Game

Post by Mvemjsunpx »

Thanks to ridiculous third quarter, Idaho overcame a 9-point halftime deficit to thump Denver 88-66. The Vandals outshot the Pioneers 63%-19% in the third frame and hit 8 treys during that span. Mikayla Ferenz led all scorers with 33 points.

Idaho will play at Arizona in the WNIT third round (unofficially the regional semifinal) Thursday evening. No Big Sky team has made it past the round of 16 in the modern iteration of the WNIT.

The Big Sky men's season is over after SUU lost to Cal St. Bakersfield at home 70-67 in the second round of the CIT. Dre Marin missed a three at the buzzer that would have tied it after the T-Birds trailed by 8 with 36 seconds left. CSUB outshot Suutah 43%-36% and put up 21 more shot attempts, but they only won by 3 because SUU went to the line 48 times. Brandon Better led the Thunderbirds with 20 points in his final game, but he almost literally did nothing else statistically.

Bakersfield is now 2-0 in the CIT after losing 9 of their last 10 games coming in. :?

Idaho trails Arizona by 10 at the half. The Vandals need to rally, or the Big Sky basketball season will officially come to an end.

3/28 Game

Post by Mvemjsunpx »

The Big Sky finished the season 0-5 against Arizona after Idaho lost to them in the WNIT third round 68-60. The difference here was turnovers as the Wildcats won that stat 15-8 and points-off-turnovers 20-7. Taylor Pierce led Idaho with 20 points in her final game. She also hit 6 threes, giving her an NCAA-record 154 for the season and 472 for her career (25 shy of the record).

Mikayla Ferenz only had 10 points tonight, but that was enough to break the Big Sky record (held by both Natalie Doma & Ferenz from last year) for most points in a season with 748. She finished her career with 2465 points, besting Doma's prior record by 169.
