My good friend and favorite teammate John Fassel was named Interim Head Coach of the Rams this week. I am SO stoked about that. He showed even back at UOP that he had the goods, and he proved it both at D-II New Mexico-Highlands, where he stopped a multi-year losing streak, and with the Raiders, where he oversaw the development of Shane Lechler and Sebastian Janikowski, two of the most lethal kickers in the history of the game. This means that for at least a LITTLE while, UOP has THREE head coaches in the NFL. I don't think any other school in the country can claim THAT.
I'm hoping that the Rams remove the interim tag and make John-John the PERMANENT Head Coach VERY soon. They won't regret it.
(And before any of you whine that John actually graduated from Weber State, check your history. John played at UOP in '95 before the Tigers gave up the ghost. He burned his redshirt to replace our combo kicker at punter when he fell down a flight of stairs visiting a friend in a Stanford dorm. THEN he transferred to Weber, where he screwed Sac over two years in a row by coming off the bench to quick kick us into oblivion. I think that was where John got his knack for special teams....)
Congratulations, John-John!

Congratulations, John-John!

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

I did not know that University of Phoenix had a football team (although I should've guessed as much given the size of their stadium)...SuperHornet wrote:My good friend and favorite teammate John Fassel was named Interim Head Coach of the Rams this week.
