NHL
Re: NHL
Meh. I'm not going to get too worried unless the Penguins lose in Pittsburgh (or once it gets to game 7), where they don't have freakish endboards.
And maybe the officials will actually call the game correctly and stop non-goalies from covering pucks in the crease.

Regardless of who wins, I hope it is an exciting game.

You mean, like what they didn't call last night when a Pen, not wearing goalie pads, stopped the puck with a couple second left?JayJ79 wrote:Meh. I'm not going to get too worried unless the Penguins lose in Pittsburgh (or once it gets to game 7), where they don't have freakish endboards.

Big difference between stopping/blocking shots, and covering/grabbing the puck.clenz wrote:You mean, like what they didn't call last night when a Pen, not wearing goalie pads, stopped the puck with a couple second left?JayJ79 wrote:Meh. It is perfectly legal for anyone to block a shot. But only the goaltender can legally cover up, or close their hand around the puck while it is inside the crease.
At no time did Scuderi ever cover up, or grab the puck. Though he did make a number of saves with his stick and skate before Fleury was able to cover. The tape will back me up on that.
However, there was an instance in one of the first two games where Osgood was laying on the ice, and the puck landed on his back, at which point one of the Wings appeared to use his hand to hold the puck against Osgood's back, which should have led to a penalty/penalty shot. And another instance where a Red Wing defender lay on top of the puck in the crease, which I think falls under the same category.

Exciting finish. Pens hold on for a 2-1 win. The Redwings hit the crossbar in the closing minutes. The game was an inch away from overtime. I didn't care who won, but I wanted to see game 7 of the cup final go OT.

I know alot of (non-Penguin fan) people dislike Sid for whatever reason.Gil Dobie wrote:Congrats Pens and Shattuck (Minnesota) Alum Sidney Crosby.
And I think part of that is because he is over-hyped so much and they kind of get sick of hearing about him.
(which I can understand, as I go through the same thing with players in other sports. Like Tom Brady for instance)
Personally, I think he is a good player, and am glad he plays for Pittsburgh. But no, I don't think of him as the second-coming of Christ like the media seems to want to make him out to be. (if anyone is to be annointed with the Christ role for the Pittsburgh franchise, it has to be Lemieux. but I digress).
I kind of like the fact that the Penguins won the Cup without either of their top two stars (the ones who get all the hype) having that good of a Finals series. At least not statistically. They still made huge contributions in roles that don't show up in the stats. And because they forced Detroit to devote alot of resources towards containing them.
But anyhow, I'll stop my ramble with this off-the-wall tidbit that popped into my head:
perhaps Pittsburgh had to lose last year because the NHL didn't want their posterboy Sid to be seen drinking champagne from the Cup while he was still underage.... ;op (he turned 21 last August)
