Caps/Rangers last night was supposed to be a brawl but the Caps decided to just score goals instead. New season, same Ovi... 2 goals to tie and move past Marcel Dionne for 5th all time. I don't care if he doesn't catch the Great One, he is the greatest goal scorer ever. Gretzky played during a time when goals were cheap. Teams were averaging more than a goal per game more in the 80's. That's 80-100 more goals per team. That would add 10-20 goals per season to Ovi's totals. He'd be getting close to 1000 goals by now.

Next highest active player on the all-time list is Patrick Marleau at 23rd, 166 goals behind. Marleau holds the NHL record for most games played all-time. Next after him is Crosby at 49th, 246 goals behind. There are only 5 other active players in the top 100 and two will probably retire after this season.

Went to my first full attendance game since March 2019 last night (went to two limited ones this past spring). 6-3 win over the Avs. Caps start out with 5 of 6 points, which is great considering two of the three games were against the teams favored to go to the Cup from each conference. Maybe the Caps won't be as bad as I feared this year.

Oh, and Ovi added one last night. 4 goals in 3 games.

They were all supposed to be off for the Olympics. Some teams made up missed games. Capitals made up a missed game and actually moved their regularly scheduled season finale to this Sunday. I guess some of the teams didn't do that.

Interesting - Rangers missed 2-3 games that I can think of. Guess they were rescheduled for different dates not in this window.

The standings are a mess. Islanders have played 8 fewer games than the Caps. Flames are in fourth place in the Pacific only 5 points behind first, but have 4-5 games in hand on the top three teams, so a possible 8-10 more points.

Bruce Boudreau is doing it again. Took over the Canucks in last place in the Pacific and has gone 21-8-4 since and have them only a couple points behind a playoff spot. IF he gets the Canucks into the playoffs he will have to go down as the greatest regular season coach of all time. Too bad he can't get his teams to win in the playoffs.

Marc-Andre Fleury just confirmed on @NHL_On_TNT's intermission show that he respects the #Caps but wasn't interested in coming to Washington at the deadline after all of the playoff battles as a member of the Penguins. "It just didn’t seem right," he said.

He probably didn't want to play with those morally bankrupt Putin lovers either.

Hey, now with 89 not here maybe no one knows the answer to this, but why is the NHL season so delayed this year? I thought they started on time in October, but it looks like the regular season isn't going to end until the end of April. The NBA playoffs are starting and I thought normally the NHL playoffs start first, but clearly not the case this year. I know the NHL shut down for a few days in December due to COVID, but I didn't think that was more than a week. Granted, not a lot of people are watching anyway, but are the Stanley Cup playoffs going to go deep into June at this point?
