Jolten Joe is always comparing Kirby Puckett to Don Mattingly for a HOF push. Mike Trout has now played 12 years, same as Puckett. If you campare their stats, they are similar, Trout only has a huge advantage in BB and HR. Puckett has a higher average, more doubles, hits, total bases, gold gloves, (Trout none), and was more durable by playing more games.
All that said, Trouts WAR is much higher, I assume because the BB bumps OBP.
In other words WAR is questionable when rating a player, and Puckett is much better than Jolten Joe gives him credit for.
Interesting comparison Puckett vs Trout.

Doesn't matter. Scott Rolen is in. Anyone can be in the HOF now. Mattingly should be a slam dunk HOF'er now.Gil Dobie wrote: ↑Mon Feb 06, 2023 5:58 am Jolten Joe is always comparing Kirby Puckett to Don Mattingly for a HOF push. That's my point about WAR, Rolen has a WAR around 70, Mattingly is 42. WAR is more important than anything else, to the modern voters. Mattingly didn't get enough walks to raise is WAR comps.GannonFan wrote: ↑Mon Feb 06, 2023 8:00 amDoesn't matter. Scott Rolen is in. Anyone can be in the HOF now.
