Mike Lowell Heading To Texas?

Post by UNHWildCats »

Negotiations between Boston and Texas on a deal that would send Mike Lowell to Texas and could bring Max Ramirez to Boston are reportedly heating up in Indianapolis.

Getting Ramirez would finally get Boston a young catcher they have been desperately seeking for well over a year, it could also mean the end of the road for Jason Varitek in Boston unless the Red Sox prefer to sit Ramirez at AAA for a season.

Boston would likely have to include another player in the deal or possibly pay Lowell's entire salary for 2010. If Boston is able to move Lowell they are expected to go hard after Adrian Beltre which is a head scratcher since he's not the moneyball type player Theo Epstein usually pursues.

deal is done pending Sox ownership approval. Sox will get Max Ramirez and send Lowell to Texas. Boston will pay nearly all of Lowell's 2010 salary

Lowell cant play 3rd base effectively anymore and they cant move him to DH because they have Ortiz there. With this they get the young catcher they have been looking for for so long. To get Ramirez for a guy they might have ended up just releasing if they couldn't trade, is actually a pretty good deal for Boston.

Don't care to have Lowell on the team. He'll end up being an expensive DH if he stays more then a year.

I'm happy we dumped Millwood for some money. Getting Rich Hardin was nice.

Boston appears to be paying $9 million of the $12 million owed. Lowell will be a FA and likely wont get that kinda payday again. At $3 million he is a bargain for Texas and also gives a valuable presence in the clubhouse for them. He my also end up as a type A FA next year and Texas would get a 1st round pick if he signed elsewhere.

I like the one year deal but if hes not cheap after that, dump him.
