Red Sox & Bay May Not Complete Divorce

Post by UNHWildCats »

One thing is clear, Boston needs a bat like Jason Bay's.

Another thing is becoming clearer, Bay doesn't want to play for the Mets.

Bay's agent may have overplayed his hand when he told the Red Sox Bay was walking away, he tried to pull a Scott Boras, only problem is Bay's agent isn't Boras.

Bay and his agent have re-approached the Red Sox about returning and Boston now seems more then eager to get back into serious talks with Bay.

For Bay to return one of two things must happen, either Bay takes a seriously backloaded contract, meaning less than $5 million in 2010 so the Sox don't hit the payroll tax threshold.

The other option would be to trade JD Drew who certainly has some value and could come cheaper to teams than Jason Bay would. Would the Mets be interested? Maybe the Angels?

JD Drew might be THE most overrated player in the MLB right now. He just turned 34. He's NEVER played more than 146 games in a season. Has hit more than 20 HR's only three times in 12 seasons. Hasn't hit higher than .286 in 5 years.

AND MADE 14,000,000 FUCKING DOLLARS LAST YEAR!!!!!

Can't disagree with a thing you said there...

Not one of the better moves made by the Sox front office, IMHO...

He has a higher OBP and SLG then Jeter, hit more HRs than Jeter and plays very good defense. And he makes $7 million less than Jeter.... If we wanna talk about overpayed lets talk about Jeter,.

Preaching to the choir. But Jeter's a shortstop.

Big difference.

The Sox would be better off pulling Fred Lynn out of retirement than keeping JD Drew. Lynn was more consistent, and at his age, could probably be had for a lot cheaper....

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

Also Jeter is the most marketable name in the game. The Yankees rake in big bucks selling No. 2 jerseys.

Jeter pays for himself.

Hey Col., he may be overpaid, but consider his impact in the 2007 post-season, and his salary becomes more bearable for you.

Which would imply that he didn't get PAID for the 2007 season. :coffee:

Only a paltry $11 million.... :ohno: :ohno:

$11 million for 11 big wins. :|

Still, the Sox were down 3 games to two when he hit that granny in the bottom of the 1st in Game 6, and that set the tone for the final two games. That HR was a huge momentum changer in the series.
