Danica Patrick

Post by 93henfan »

Finished 6th (out of 43) in her NASCAR ARCA Series debut today.

I'm willing to admit that I was a naysayer about her jump to NASCAR, but she acquitted herself well today. She made some pretty good decisions draft-wise, experimented with taking the high line once and was smart enough not to do it again after finding it didn't work, and made a nice recovery after her car was sideways going into the tri-oval on the last lap.

I may be a total convert if she can show that she can handle the car in the same manner once they get to some of the more demanding tracks. Superspeedways aren't exactly a test of skill, but she did as well, if not better, than could have been expected in her debut.

I have felt she is a good, but not great driver. Can finish top 10 in any race, but just lacks that special something that the regular winners, whether NASCAR or Indy, have.

Is ARCA affiliated with NASCAR, or are they seperate entities?

Anyhow, Jill George, a former UNI track athlete (and wife of former UNI athletic director and current NCAA basketball ref, Rick Hartzell) raced in that event as well, but crashed in the 25th lap while trying to avoid another crashed car.

Both actually, and a good catch on your part. They are technically separate entities, but have a strong relationship that often has them racing at the same track on the same weekend (or in the case of Daytona, Speedweek). A logical progression for a budding NASCAR driver is to move through the ARCA series, on to the Nationwide Series, and finally to Sprint Cup.

I think she will do a lot worse if she ends up in the Nationwide series.

She'll probably be there next year, or perhaps as early as second half of this year if she wins an ARCA race or two. She already has an owner (Dale Earnhardt Jr.) with an entry in the Nationwide series.

She's already set to race in California for Nationwide. She will announce tomorrow if she'll drive in the Nationwide Series race in Daytona next Saturday...for Jr.

ARCA is not that great of a series overall. And really if you watched the race she was not that impressive. About the only thing she really did was play follow the leader. This chick has had 81 iroc indy races with one fuel mileage win.

Now the girl who was impressive was 22 yo Ali Owens who rode in the top five all day until the last few laps.

and she didn't make the mistakes Danica was making. Danica had way too many mistakes in that race.

Funny how everyone is quick to point out whatever supposed mistakes that Danica makes, yet not a peep about the glaring mistakes that many of the male drivers in that race made.
Granted, the race coverage in general was obsessed with Danica, so maybe people weren't aware that there were actually other people in the race, but still.

Not that I really care one way or the other. I just had a passing interest because of the local driver in the race.

The other racers are not getting races in the Nationwide series from a major team the way Danica is either. She has yet to really prove herself, but she is getting a lot of "gifts" into the nationwide series and probably will into the Sprint Cup series.

The other drivers aren't being forced on the nation by ESPN and FoxSportsRadio and other companies like that almost non stop. There is a reason I won't listen to the radio at all this week. Danica and the Super Bowl. I only listen to sports talk and the next week or so will be unbearable.

Yeah, ARCA is where inexperienced drivers go to try to move up. It's the Double-A ball equivalent for NASCAR.

People that watch racing just for the accidents should tune in to every ARCA superspeedway race. They are well known for their horrific accidents.

With ARCA there is a huge disrarity of $$$. You will have a couple of brand new fresh out of a high end race shop cars, mostly 2-3 year old former NASCAR rides, and a handful of "vintage" cars. Last year during the ARCA race at the Illinois State Fair, there were even a couple of Buick Regals, Pontiac Grand Prix, and a Ford Thunderchicken.

All you would really have to do to run top 10 is have somebody put your ass into top notch equipment and then manage to keep the car clean with all the decals and fenders still attached.

Wouldn't it be great to really be pulled over by a female cop and have her rip off her shirt (assuming, of course, that she looked like the one in the commercial and not Rosanne Barr)?

In a word, .. YES!

My younges, 4yo, repeated the shirt ripping with her PJs. I laughed.
