Girl from Texas wins team track title by herself

Post by proasu89 »

Incredible story from a small town in Texas. I read it in an old SI today and had to look it up. She's gonna make one hell of a 12th man at A&M. This was from 09 so sorry if this is old news to most of you.

There was a PA girl who did that for her high school in back to back years a few years ago. She qualified for 3 events and won them all the first year and 2 of 3 the second time. PA limits you to three events, otherwise I think she could have won more. I think she's running at USC now.

A guy from my high school did it in the 70s or 60s before schools were split by size. He qualified for five events and won all of them. Talent in Iowa during that time isn't the same as Texas now though

My nephew almost did it at the Virginia State championship his junior year scoring 40 of the teams 52 points.
He runs at Cal now (after transferring from Florida). He was the HS national champion and record holder for the pole vault and still has the American Record for under 18 decathalon. Coming off tommy jon surgery on his elbow (throwing a javelin) and he's widely regarded along with Ashton Eaton at Oregon to be the future of the US decathalon.

Here's his HS bio:
HIGH SCHOOL/PREP: Bests of 11.14 in 100m, 51.60 in 400m, 4:50.32 in 1,500m, 14.41 in 39-inch 110m hurdles, 15.24 in 110m high hurdles, 6-4 in high jump, 17-6.50 in pole vault, 23-3 in long jump, 46-4.50 in triple jump and 6,952 in decathlon … Two-time Gatorade Virginia Athlete of the Year … Set meet record in winning 2006 Nike Outdoor Nationals pole vault (17-3) … 2005 USA Junior national champion in pole vault (16-8.75) … 2004 USA Youth national champion in pole vault and decathlon (6,308) … Five-time Virginia Class AAA state champion - four times in pole vault, one time in 300m hurdles … Ended 2006 with No. 1 mark in nation in pole vault (17-6.50) - also a Virginia state record … At 2006 Class AAA state outdoor meet, scored 26 points by winning pole vault and 300m hurdles in 38.26 and taking third in 110m hurdles (14.41) … At 2006 Virginia indoor state meet, won pole vault with state and meet record mark (17-0.50), was third in 55m hurdles (7.55) and took seventh in long jump (22-4) … At 2005 Virginia AAA outdoor meet, had phenomenal performance by scoring 40 points by himself … Won pole vault (16-6), was second in long jump (22-9), second in 110m hurdles (14.61), second in 300m hurdles (38.08) and third in triple jump (46-4.50) … Set high school records in pole vault, long jump, triple jump, 55m hurdles, 110m hurdles, 300m hurdles and 4x100m relay

Kid is an absolute ridiculous athlete. His brother is one of the top prospects in the Rays minor league organization and his sister just signed a full ride to Hawaii for T&F as well.

And the talent he ran against in High School included the likes of Percy Harvin.....

It might be easier in a smaller state though, the bigger the state the less likely a school will have multiple participants at states.

as she dominated the University Interscholastic League State Championships.
How many different state t&f championships does Texas have?

Richardson has lived in Rochelle her whole life and loves fishing and hunting "anything that moves."
Be very still, otherwise she'll shoot you!

Agreed. The guy from our school was one of 4 guys on our track team, and the only at state though.

However, like I said the talent in Iowa in the 60's and 70's is nowhee near what Texas is.
