Clint Dempsey scored a late winner as Fulham overturned a three-goal aggregate deficit to beat Juventus 4-1 on Thursday and reach the quarterfinals of the Europa League.
The teams were level at 4-4 overall when the United States midfielder collected the ball in the 82nd minute and turned into space on the edge of the area before beating the goalkeeper with a well-flighted chip. Clint Dempsey celebrates his match winner

"Nine times out of 10 it won't make it, but you've got to take a risk and fortunately enough it worked out tonight," Dempsey said of his goal. "We conceded early in the game but showed a lot of heart and a lot of character to fight back, and now we're through to the next round.
Just a hunch....but I bet he moped around the field for about 80 minutes before he decided hey what the hell, how about I try to do something?
He is the most on/off U.S. player I have ever seen.

Pretty much, but he got subbed on about the 70th min. Pretty nice goal, too.

Sweet stuff. He's got the talent, no doubt. I just wish he would dial up the desire to match. Anything more than the 25-33% that he seems to give would be great.
That's his problem - it's always there for Fulham, and has been ever since they benched him a couple years ago. He plays all out for them the whole game, it's when he puts on the USA jersey he turns into a slacker.
