Philadelphia Union Folds
Well not yet but's its a matter of time.
They released their ticket prices today: Cheapest seats in the house: are you sitting down?? 28 bucks!! You can get a decent Phillies seat for cheaper than that. Seats go all the way up to $100.
Soccer in the Philly area is a huge risk to begin with on the pro level. Putting a stadium in Chester is because no one else was desperate enough to do it. Pricing yourself out of the market was just stupid. I've worked with many of the major and minor league teams in the Philly market, good luck filling those seats at those prices boys. I hope they can get a Lingerie Football League team to be a tenant at that "soon to be vacant" stadium.

Just dumb. Cheapest for Houston is $20 but they usually have great group deals.

Re: Philadelphia Union Folds
But wouldn't you pay a premium to see a start up team in an afterthought sport play in a stadium in the hood over going to see a perennial World Series baseball team? I know I would.bluehenbillk wrote:You can get a decent Phillies seat for cheaper than that.

Red Bull Arena opens the 20th again Santos FC. I'm thinking about taking the train over for the day to see the stadium and the game.
Looks like a great place to watch a game.

Re: Philadelphia Union Folds
Isn't the $28 number just the lowest price for the innagural game that's being played at Lincoln Financial and the second game, also at Lincoln Financial? I haven't seen them come out with individual prices for the games in Chester yet.bluehenbillk wrote:Well not yet but's its a matter of time.

And as for them being in Chester, you know that's just a zip code - they're building stadium specific off-ramps from I-95 and the Commodore Barry that means you'll go from the interstate to the parking lot and never see Chester. Kinda like how when you go to Temple to the Liacouras Center you somehow never set foot in the real North Philly.

Maybe just not Philly, but the whole league:
The CBA expires tonight at midnight and the Players Union has walked. Everything I've read indicates they are completely opposite from the league, which includes free agency for expired contracts and guaranteed contracts. They haven't struck yet, but if they do so before the season starts, as much as I love DC, they're going to find out just how little people in this country care for MLS.

Re: Philadelphia Union Folds
Just saw this - PPL will be the stadium sponsor for $20 mil over 11 years. They've also sold over 10,000 season tickets. Only two games will be played at the Linc. Unless the players strike and the league folds, Union aren't going anywhere.

Chester, PA (March 8, 2010) - Philadelphia Union announced today the signing of Colombian midfielder Roger Torres on loan from América de Cali of the Columbian First Division. “We're very excited to have Roger join our club,” said Team Manager Peter Nowak. “He's another young, talented player with a lot of potential and he'll be a strong addition to our midfield attack. His creativity and ability to see the whole field will help us play the way we want to play."
Torres, 18, debuted with América de Cali last year, starting all 15 games in which he played. In 2008, he played his first professional game with Colombian First-Division-B club Alianza Petrolera.
Philadelphia Union’s first-ever First Kick will take place March 25, 2010 vs. Seattle Sounders FC at Seattle’s Qwest Field. On June 27, 2010, Philadelphia Union will open PPL Park vs. Seattle Sounders FC.

PHILADELPHIA UNION ANNOUNCE SEASON TICKET WAITING LIST PROCEDURES
Less than 500 season tickets remain at PPL Park

CHESTER, Pa. (April 29, 2010) – With less than 500 season tickets remaining, Philadelphia Union have announced that the club will soon be accepting deposits for a season ticket waiting list. Major League Soccer’s newest club has capped season ticket sales at 12,000 to allow the Union to have a limited number of individual game and group seats available.
“With the 12,000 season ticket cap very close, we want to give fans a clear procedure on how to get in line," said Philadelphia Union President Tom Veit. “We consulted with other MLS teams that have waiting lists to insure our fans would have a fair chance to get season tickets when and if they become available.”
While most sections are already sold out, there are a small number of season tickets remaining in the Sideline, Endline, Corner and Supporter sections.

You have to give them some credit for getting a shot of Chester with no "police line - do not cross" tape visible.

Wasn't that hard - they built the place in one of the deserted sections of Chester - crime would have to travel to get there. Besides, with the way they built the place it's like going to a Temple basketball game in the heart of North Philly - with all the protected walkways and secured parking, the only way you know you're even in North Philly is if you look at a map.93henfan wrote:You have to give them some credit for getting a shot of Chester with no "police line - do not cross" tape visible.
