Clenz's poll threads got me thinking about posting this poll.

I have for sometime felt MLB needed to alter its rulers for determining a LP.

The poll question is.. Should MLB change its rule and award a loss to a pitcher directly responsible for losing the game?

Why change the rule? Because currently Pitcher A would receive a loss in the following situation.

Pitcher A pitching for Team A allows 1 unearned run in 6 innings of work and leaves the game trailing 1-0. The run scored when team B's leadoff batter reached on an error by the SS, was sacrificed to second and took third on a passed ball. He scored on a sacrifice fly.

Pitcher B pitching for Team A enters the game trailing 1-0 in the 7th inning and allows 6 ER in 2/3 of an inning. In the bottom of the 7th Team A scored 6 ER to make the score Team B 7 Team A 6, the game would end with this score and Pitcher A who allowed just 1 unearned run is credited with the loss because his team never took the lead which certainly wasnt his fault. I have for sometime felt Pitcher B should take the loss as he was directly responsible for it.

Nah, leave it the way it is. Otherwise we spend all this time worrying about who really deserves the loss more. Your's is a very clear example that wouldn't always be as clear as you make it out to be. It works fine and always has worked fine - plus, then we get into the thing of how would we compare stats from guys after this change with the historical stats that were done before this change. No real big reason to change it.
