Villa adds an assist to his tally, and Chile are down to 10. This is going to get ugly.

So it'll be Spain v Portugal if these results hold. Should be a helluva match if both teams manage to leave the snorkels at home.

Maybe not....substitute comes on for Chile to start the second and he scores within 2 minutes on a beautiful chip shot. 2-1. :|

Maybe Spain should have someone else fall to the ground and writhe in pain and see if another nearby Chilean can get redcarded so they can be down to 9 men?

And another unremarkable European side exits the World Cup with Switzerland, needing at least a win, can only manage an uneventful 0-0 tie against lowly Honduras. So glad they could come.

And on another note, every South American side in now through to the round of 16.

Saw these caricatures on another site. Some, like the US, aren't up to date (Heath Pearce?), and others, are just.....haunting.

Did you really expect a rousing performance from the Swiss? Hell, they didn't even make it out of the group stage at Euro '08 when they were co-hosting.

Findley and Clark are back in the starting lineup, with Bornstein staying at LB. No point in second-guessing the lineup now, just hope Findley's gonna bag a brace for us. USA!

Clark screws pooch- gives up a goal, now gets yellow card

Bringing back Clark and Findley is a bad idea by Bradley

Does the US need a new coach?

Seems his decision to start Clark killed us.

Ghana outplayed us, plain and simple. Good luck to the Black Stars for the rest of the World Cup!

No two ways about it. If you didn't think Ghana (by virtue of their 2nd place in the ACN and win over the US in '06) was the better team going in, you were nuts. Easy money made by me through Vegas today! Going against the US as favorites is damn near a sure thing anymore.

But they're all playing each other

Germany/England
Slovenia/Netherlands
Portugal/Spain

Also, it's very possible for an all-South American final four with Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay the favorites in their groups of four and Paraguay having a good shot against the Spain/Portugal survivor.

If you don't like soccer then I can see why you're glad US is out...

For those who do like soccer this is the shit - it doesn't get better than this. For all of us long-suffering soccer parents who have had "the beautiful game" rammed down our screaming throats it's really fun watching soccer played at the ultimate level, with the weight of nations on the shoulders of the teams...
