The San Diego Chargers reported today that the 85-year-old architect of the modern pass offense (or one of them, anyway) died in a La Mesa hospital. No cause was released. Don Coryell was instrumental in taking San Diego deep into the playoffs with HOFer Dan Fouts under center and is the first coach with 100 wins each in the NCAA and the NFL.
Man, this sucks for football historians and Chargers, Cardinals, and Aztec fans. A great guy on all accounts. Coryell, Gillman, Davis, and Walsh are all interconnected in the development of the modern air attack.
I for one am saddened by this loss.

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

I guess you could say that he has been 'grounded'.
His teams were fun to watch.
RIP Don.
