Tiger No Longer No. 1

Post by JoltinJoe »

After a record 281 straight weeks as the world's No. 1 ranked golfer, Tiger Woods has been supplanted at the top this week by Lee Westwood.

The top contenders are so close right now that Westwood, Woods, Martin Kaymer and Phil Mickelson all have a shot at being no. 1 next week, depending on their showings at the HSBC Championships.

I can understand Tiger losing the #1 spot, but having a guy move up to #1 that has zero career majors, and a limited number of wins is ridiculous.

Not sure Tiger will ever get his mojo back. Maybe a major here and there, but he has to prove he can dominate again.

Sure they are. The Yankees are still No. 1. The Giants get to pretend they are as good as the Yankees for a few months.

At this point, you wonder if Tiger is going to get those 18 majors.

He's at that point of his career much like Mike Tyson after he was knocked out by Buster Douglas.

I thought Tyson just had a bad night and he'd be back at the top soon enough. But Tyson never got back to the top.

So is Tiger going to get his game back or not? After 281 weeks at No. 1, is he done or is this just a blip in his otherwise remarkable run at the top?

My first reaction is he will still easily get to 18+, but you have a point. Will be interesting to see what happens.

On one level, it seems likely that he has 14 -- he's going to get at least four more ...

But, then again, many excellent golfers go their entire careers and don't win four majors.
