CHARLOTTE — Armanti Edwards said Wednesday marked the first time since high school that he’s taken a snap from center during practice.
Edwards said he’s been told he’ll be Carolina’s No. 3 quarterback against Tampa Bay this Sunday.
Edwards said he only took snaps out of the shotgun at Appalachian State, never from directly under center.
When asked what separates him from Jimmy Clausen and Tony Pike, the team’s other two rookie quarterbacks, “I’m a little more mobile than those guys.”
After practice coach John Fox spoke directly to Edwards.
“He wanted to get me comfortable under center in case of an emergency,” Edwards said. “Maybe I’ll have to go in the game.
Edwards said he still views himself as a NFL receiver and that’s what he’s trying to master.
“I feel very, very comfortable and very good about it,” Edwards said. “Unfortunately, I got comfortable a little too late and I’ve got guys in front of me. I just have to try to be patient.”

Re: Panthers notebook: Armanti Takes Snaps
I think we'd all like to see what AE could do with the Panthers, but I don't really see anyone coming in to save the day in Charlotte with this bunch of yahoos. Peyton or Brady couldn't get 100 yds a game with this receiving corps and offensive line. After Richardson sold off the talent half the team is concussed to some extent and I'm not certain Fox can coach his way out of a paper bag right now. If you look closely enough on Sundays you can see the fork sticking out of the Panthers organization right now.
