Did anyone notice or even care? I didn't think so.
NASCAR used to be fun.

Re: Jimmie Johnson Wins 5th Consecutive Sprint Cup
The chase started in 04' sucks. Should have kept the old format:
04' Busch wins Chase. Old format he would have finished 4th. Gordan would have won 5th Winston/Nextel.
05' Stewart wins hase. Old format would have also won.
06' Johnson wins Chase. Old format would have also won.
07' Johnson wins Chase. Old format would have finished 2nd, Gordan would have won 6th Winston/Nextel.
08' Johnson wins Chase. Old format would have finished 2nd, Carl Edwards would have won his 1st Sprint Title.
09' Johnson wins Chase. Old format would have also won.
10' Johnson wins Chase. Old format would have finished 2nd, Harvick would have won his 1st Sprint Title.

This is why even though some will now say Johnson is greater than Gordon, Jeff Gordon is still the far superior driver over his career.BDKJMU wrote:The chase started in 04' sucks. Should have kept the old format:

Screw the "Chase". That's what ruined NASCAR....BDKJMU wrote:The chase started in 04' sucks. Should have kept the old format:

NASCAR is boring. For me, auto racing is all about IndyCar.
Interesting how it seemed there were fewer IndyCar races broadcast this year, at least on broadcast TV.

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

I agree. Get rid of the chase and the "Lucky Dog". Those are the two changes that ruined the sport for me.BDKJMU wrote:The chase started in 04' sucks. Should have kept the old format:

I always think when you take something that a certain segment of the population likes and you water it down for the masses it just sucks balls. The changes in the sport (including the chase) and making the whole thing a lot more easy for me to not care about. I just couldn't give a shit about watching anymore.BlueHen86 wrote:I agree. Re: Jimmie Johnson Wins 5th Consecutive Sprint Cup
I definitely think that NASCAR screwed itself when it turned away from it's roots/loyal fans in an effort to court more viewers. Adding tracks in California, Texas, Kansas, Chicago, Phoenix etc. and taking races away from tracks in the south, like North Wilkesboro, may have seemed like a good idea at the time. But all they did was alienate loyal fans and gain short term fans who considered NASCAR nothing more than a fad.Ursus A. Another downside is TV coverage. Once the sport went mainstream it seems like the telecasts added alot more commercials. I may be remembering it wrong, but I liked the ESPN coverage in the mid to late 90's when it seemed like there were fewer interuptions.
Dale Earnhardt's death also hurt the sport a lot. Once he was gone the sport lost one of it's most popular drivers and got taken over by a bunch of punk "young guns". Guys that had no respect for the established drivers and never worked on a car in their life. I have no doubt that "The Intimidator" would have put them in their place.
