Team USA (9-1) qualified for the 2012 Olympics in London with a 3-1 (23, 15, 22-25, 21) victory over Italy (9-1) at the FIVB World Championships in Tokyo. A US victory over Japan tonight in three or four sets will give USA the World Championship regardless of what 9-1 Italy does against hapless Kenya (0-10). A US five-set win will likely force a tiebreaker with Italy. This is a chance for USA to win their first-ever World Championship after winning the bronze in '03 and '07. UOP star middle blocker Jennifer Joines-Tamas is still a part of Team USA. Go Tigers!!!
SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.
Tamas will have a hard time making the London squad. The U.S. has a very young team. The only old guard members who are likely to go to London are Tom, Bown and Berg.
I have no idea what we are going to do about the libero position. Davis is clearly not the answer. Hugh doesn't seem to have a lot of confidence in Myashiro. Maybe Sykora will fully recover from her brain injury by then.
