While the Vikings search for a stadium, Minnesota should be searching for a pro football team, they've gone long enough without one already, and I don't know if their fans have enough patience to wait for Aaron Rodgers to leave the Packers and bring a season or two of hope to them.

Another city, not named, has approached the Vikings. It was announced on the day Minneapolis shared it's proposal for the new Vikings Stadium.

Minnesota Vikings spokesman Lester Bagley said another U.S. city -- other than Los Angeles -- has contacted the team about leaving Minnesota.

Bagley, the team's vice president of stadium development and public affairs, made the comment as he answered questions from legislators at Tuesday's hearing at the state Capitol over whether to help publicly fund a new stadium. He was not pressed during the hearing to elaborate, and afterward declined to identify the city.

"We would let that city speak for themselves," said Bagley, who said the city had approached the team over the past year. "I don't think it's our place to say who it is."

But his comments were one of the most intriguing developments at the five-hearing, in which dozens of speakers argued for and against a new stadium and advocated for a variety of stadium financing plans.

Over the past year, much of the speculation over the Vikings leaving Minnesota has centered on the team being wooed by developers in Los Angeles, the largest U.S. city without a National Football League team. Bagley acknowledged again Tuesday that two groups of Los Angeles developers had been in contact with the team -- but added another city had also approached the Vikings

She lives in Canada. I met her at Niagara Falls. You wouldn't know her.

Lester Bagley has less than zero credibility...

nobody believes a damn word he says. he's a piss-poor negotiator - and these kinds of stunts only harm their quest for a stadium...

Is LA still looking for a team?

Minnesota legislature voted down the stadium proposal, Ziggy could be putting the queens on the sales rack.

Jacksonville looks to be a longterm deal, and I could see Buffalo being the first Canadian Franchise. It's down to San Diego and Minnesota or both.

Now it looks like Hennepin County is going to enter the stadium fray if nothing can get done this session....
Sources tell 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS that the developers have reconfigured the Farmer's Market site and are now calling it the "Stadium District" site. It would move the stadium property line within 100 yards of Target Field.

The idea is to create a sports complex with restaurants, hotels and entertainment connecting the new Vikings stadium to Target Field and Target Center.

Hennepin County Commission Vice-Chair, Mark Stenglein confirmed that he and Commission Chairman, Mike Opat, have met regularly with developers of the Stadium District site.

Sources tell us Hennepin County is waiting for the legislative session to end without a Vikings stadium deal. If that happens, expect Hennepin County and developers of the Stadium District site to unveil their plans publicly.

Sources also tell us Target Corporation has expressed interest in the naming rights to the new stadium, giving the company naming rights on Target Field, Target Center and what would be the new Target Stadium.

SuperHornet wrote:Apparently, there's a squbble going on between the Vikings and the Minnesota state legislature.

The Purple People Eaters say they'll pay for a third of an open-air stadim, but won't pay one red cent for a roof, even if the legislature says one is required. They cite no benefit and a slew of extra costs, not the least of which is infrastructure.

I say football was made to be played outside ON GRASS. Snow football is fun. Any other opinions, particularly from those fans who are in the rough general area?

To me, it smacks of what happened to the SuperSonics. In a nutshell, the Sonics were forced to leave Seattle because the NBA demanded they upgrade their arena or build a new one (their lease was expiring), but weren't able to gather the requisite support from the state legislature in Washington, which had ponied up some serious dough to build Safeco Field. When you add in the fact that the Sonics had sold their team to a businessman from Oklahoma City (Clay Bennett) who wanted the state to pay for the whole arena it spelled doom for the NBA in Seattle.

Fast forward to 2012. The Vikings clearly need a new stadium. Not sure if the NFL is requiring it, but it's fairly obvious that there is some serious impetus to get a new one at some level. Like the Sonics, the Vikings cannot seem to get their state behind the financing of an arena. Don't forget they already built a new downtown stadium for the Twins recently. I don't think the Wilfs will sell, but as far as I can tell, the Vikings are well on their way as far as following the path the Sonics took to Oklahoma City.

Start praying, Minnesota.

If they build in the Farmers Market net Target Field, it will be another stadium that won't be very fun traveling to. As much as I disliked the Metrodome for baseball, I would go to a game there any day over Target Field. Target Field is nice once you get there, but it's a pain in the buttocks to get there, and the downtown crime scene on the way out.

The Vikings stadium has officially passed through the MN legislature, the Gov will sign it today. So no Vikings for LA and no more Metrodome!

Given the great QB they signed during the offseason, now MIN has the chance to challenge for the playoffs!

The one worry is that they cut veteran kicker Ryan Longwell and are going forward with a rookie from UGA. SMH....

Ponder will be the starting QB.

Glad to hear they finally got something done. At least one Packers home game will be close to home. ;)
