I'm no cop, but I would imagine my training would tell me that a guy on a subway platform with a gun out is probably going to shoot someone so I'd draw on him. If I know I'm a cop and he turns toward me with a loaded weapon before he can identify himself as a cop then he's probably going to get dropped no matter what color he is.

How did this one simple question evolve into something else.First you ppl accused me of having a personal dislike for one person whom I have stated I have nothing against in fact was hoping that he made the finals for his specialty the 400m.I felt that Pistorius missed a golden opportunity to make history for his country by qualifying for the finals in a major sprint race.Then this escalated into accusations of me being a racist.

You make racist comments all the time. I didn't watch the race and I understand disappointment. But why does SA need to have more black atheltes than white ones? Why does race matter?

You don't get it your ppl don't have to live with the residual effects of the slave trade.Overt racism of today can be traced back to what my ancestors had to deal with.The modern members of law enforcement can trace their beginnings back to the plantation overseer.If a black man ,woman became rebellious who was sent to control him???Agreed not all whites were involved in the slave trade never said that but again these ppl and their exploits aren't known to the general public.Ppl like Thaddeus Stevens a Republican congressman who was a staunch critic of the slave trade but he is depicted as a evil villian by historians but that isn't the case.He wanted to impeach Abraham Lincoln because he felt that Lincoln was not doing enough to end the misery of black ppl before he wrote the Emancipation Proclamation.My oldest brother remembers reading a article about Lincoln selling black ppl in back of the White House as if he was conducting a GOING OUT BUSINESS sale.He even made a joke about somebody associated with the Abolitionists after this person was murdered.What was the name of your grandfather and the movie theater he started????

Just to be clear on this, Henry Clay (Kentucky native, I believe) was the first one to prop up this idea. So don't pile it all on Lincoln.
Not to get too snippy, but would it be fair for me to assume that you also don't celebrate Washington, Jefferson, Madison, etc. because they owned slaves? That's not to say I celebrate any politician, mind you.

Also, since everyone is voluteering their own ancestry...mine is mostly Dutch and British. (With a bit of German, Irish, and Polish thrown in) I do know we had relatives on both sides of the Civil War. Some from Ohio, some from Texas. So we've been/were...uh...how to phrase this...responsible for some of this racist crap we still talk about.

The easiest way to get rid of racism is to simply stop talking about it. I believe that was Morgan Freeman's quote, but I'm not 100% sure about that.

Lincoln advocated the colonization of blacks up until his final week. It doesn't matter who first came up with the idea, Lincoln was activley trying to make it happen. There is no piling on. And no, I don't celebrate any president birthday or Presidents day. They were products of their enviroment.

Btw, Dal, my 4th great grandfather was killed, in June 1865, when he attacked a Union soldier that had beat his wife. The soldiers were ransacking the plantation house. He attacked the soldier and was shot by the other soldiers.

Racism will exist as long as blacks blame thier problems on whites (for example). They should start by ceasing to call each other nigger or nigga.
