NBA Move?

Post by SuperHornet »

CBS-13 in Sac is teasing a story for the 10 o'clock news about a $380M deal to "lasso" (anchor Shannon Brinias' word in her FB post) an NBA team for VA Beach. As per usual, the "likely suspect" is the Sac Kings (hence 13's report when they hardly ever bother with a sports story).

I'm getting SO tired of the Maloofs. He folded the wrong team and ruined the remaining one. Now it seems like they're leaving. First Anaheim, then Seattle, and now apparently VA Beach. Rochester, Cincinnati, or KC would make more sense to me, but the MOST sense is to dump the Maloofs and get the new Sac-Town arena built. This roving eye is wearyingly nauseating....

The Kings are as good as gone. It's a matter of where, not if.

That's probably true, SD, but I heard somewhere tonight that the Commish (as if Stern has any cred left) has forbidden the Kings to move for the time being after the last time the Maloofs hoodwinked Kevin Johnson....

He can't forbid a damn thing because that will open it up to an anti-trust lawsuit. Stern knows that, and so do the other owners. Plus that would send a bad signal to all the other owners. Like they want the commish dictating what they can and can't do with their franchises.

Yes they screwed over the Monarchs in the WNBA as well.

That would make the most sense, IMO. Hopefully the Coyotes will move into the new arena, as well.

Johnson would love to do that. The sticking point is the Maloofs. Johnson has bent over backward to get a good deal for the team, but the Maloofs keep bungling things. Personally, I think that either someone is going to convince them to sell the team or they're going to convince the league to let them move to Lost Wages....

They should sell the team and get the Monarchs back into the WNBA the Maloofs are a bunch of screw ups !!!!!!!! Would it be possible for the Monarchs to gain re-entry back into the WNBA?????

The only chance the Kings stay in Sac is if the Maloofs have to sell and somebody who wants to keep them in Sac buys them. However someone can make a lot more money off the Kings in Seattle then they could ever dream of making if they kept them in Sac.

1. The Maloofs will not move the team to Seattle. The people there want local ownership so they would have to sell the team to Seattle's group. If they do that, they might as well sell in Sacramento.

2. Virginia Beach is a new player, but the feeling is that the league will not want a team to move from coast to coast as it interferes with the logistics of scheduling. The LA teams, as well as Golden State and Phoenix, would be flying across the country 4 times a year to play there. Charlotte is a more logical choice for VA Beach. The Hornets could not function there and the Bobcats continue to struggle.

3. Las Vegas has no NBA caliber arena and has the gambling issue (an aspect the four major sports do not want to address at this time). Also, most casinos do not allow betting on pro events in Nevada.

4. The Anahiem talks have cooled from last year.

5. Any other city is way behind right now. The Kings did move from Kansas City to Sacramento so it is highly unlikely they would return.

Therefore, I'd say the Kings are staying put in Sacramento for awhile. If Seattle le's the Maloofs move without a change of ownership, that would be the logical choice, but after the Sonics left for Oklahoma, Seattle wants to be assured they will have a team for awhile.

Great breakdown Jalmond :thumb:

I doubt they would move to KC also, just wishful thinking.

Very good breakdown, J. There IS precedent for a team that has moved to return to their first city.

Of course, that team is NOT in the NBA....

That's a great story, dal, but it has NOTHING to do with the potential shifting of the Kings to another city....
