SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

Pole Vault has to be one of the toughest T&F events to do for someone who is blind. You need to have your timing perfect and the wind can effect that. A little off and you can get injured if you don't know where the pit or the mat is.
I am impressed.

Good god I would pay good money to see an entire field of blind people run a hurdle race

In high school, very few states run the steeple but yes that would be very tough and extremely dangerous.
Hurdles and high jump would be tough. I put pole vault as tougher and more dangerous than the high jump because you have the extra issue of putting the pole in the pit and you are going higher.
Hurdles would also be tough but I'd think pole vault would be more dangerous. In running events, I have seen a non-blind person running next to a blind person before as a guide. Never seen a hurdle event with a blind person but this could make it more doable as they are being coached down the track and told when to jump. Still not easy and makes it much slower but doable. I wouldn't extend it to steeplechase because I have seen some of the worst spills on the water jump that are hilarious. If a blind person tried, it could get really dangerous especially if others were around trying to go over at the same time.

What about a blind deaf mute trying to do hurdles? That would be a helluva thing to watch, huh? Like blacks trying to skate.tribe_pride wrote:I didn't say the only tough one but one of the toughest.bandl wrote: What about hurdles? steeple chase? High jump?

Tell that to P.K. Subban - 3 goals and 8 assists in 6 and 2/3 games in the playoffsbandl wrote:What about a blind deaf mute trying to do hurdles? That would be a helluva thing to watch, huh? Like blacks trying to skate.tribe_pride wrote:

The only other black NHLer I know is Joel Ward for the Caps and I just happened to see Subban score within an hour of when I saw your post.

That'd be rough. The gun would go off, and the athlete would just stand there...ready to go.bandl wrote:What about a blind deaf mute trying to do hurdles? That would be a helluva thing to watch, huh? Like blacks trying to skate.tribe_pride wrote:

A blind javelin thrower would keep the spectators on their toes.

The problem with people who get hit by the javelin is that when you hear about it happening, a lot people were trying to run away from the javelin. How dumb is that? Go to 1 side or the other. That's the easiest way to avoid it when it's coming at you.

Charlotte finished 4th at 11', a four-place and 6" improvement over last year. She's disappointed that she missed out on the three-deep medals. Fortunately, she has one season left to get it done, and figures that the fact that she's COMPLETELY blind now will allow her to focus on one technique without having to worry about constantly adapting to the gradual loss of vision.

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.
