New Record Long Field Goal!

Congratulations to Tori Talbutt of the Portland Fighting Fillies, who kicked a 48 yard field goal in last week's 57-0 demolition of the Tacoma Trauma in the final WFA regular season game for both teams. This not only breaks the WFA record, besting Sarah Oliver's 44 yard blast back in 2008 for the California Quake, but also the women's semi-pro record (Ashley Snyder for the Boston Militia vs. the Pittsburgh Passion in a 2010 IWFL win (27-0). Apparently, there was also a 48-yard FG by Heidi Garrett of Riverside (CA)-Martin Luther King HS in a 24-14 win over Menifee-Paloma Valley HS in 2004.

Screw you, V. The kicker for the Sirens once kicked a 40 yard FG that would have been good from 50, but the coaching staff refused to let her try. They were content in going for it on fourth down. Unfortunately, I couldn't complain all that much about it because they converted 4th and long (even up to 4th and 30) with amazing regularity. Too bad the staff was chosen to coach the Law Enforcement team at the Sacramento Pig Bowl (a Guns 'N' Hoses event) when said kicker retired to attend the Sac Sheriff's Academy. When Law reached 4th and goal on the 12, they eschewed the FG to go for it. Law was NOT the Sirens; the quarterback got chokeslammed straight out of WWE by the firefighters, and nothing got called. Our girl made all four of her PATs with the bigger ball, but that's about all the good that happened that day for the Law team....

I kicked in high school for one season...as a freshman...and my season-high was 48 yards. And trust me, I was far from the best kicker. I think I was 50% on the year.

In the spirit of full-disclosure, it was with a strong wind at my back, it barely squeaked through, and I lucked out on the accuracy since I just kicked it as hard as I could. But still...
